What is the Cheapest semi auto rifle

I know a lot of people don't care for them but when you think about it, there really isn't another semi auto centerfire rifle in the $500 price range that takes commonly available ammo. Hakims are the only other I can think of and they're not that easy to find.

I was thinking of picking up an SKS as my 1st rifle but decided to save up for another few weeks and pick up an M&P 15 Sport and am 110% happy I did. $600 bucks for the rifle and ammo is affordable and readily available. If this is just meant to be a fun range gun then you might want to consider getting one.

Hi-Point is less than that and takes 9mm.

Hi-point would definitely be the cheapest rifle. For rifle calibers, the cheapest that comes to mind would be an unmodified Saiga at around $350-400.

True but the OP doesn't want anything in pistol caliber.

I don't remember seeing that. Was it added after the fact? That said, how about a .44 carbine? What is the definition of "pistol caliber" versus "rifle caliber"?

Some that satisfy both:
9mm
.22LR
.357
.44
.30 carbine
.17HMR
.22 Magnum
.45

and others, I'm sure.
