Finishing up putting together my body armor and am basically only missing a knife. I've looked at the SOG Seal Pup, ESEE 3, Gerber LMF, etc. but am still up in the air. I have larger hands, which took out the Gerber Prodigy as I think it will be too small.

Overall I'm thinking of putting it on my strong side area next to my first aid bag. Not sure about that yet.

What do you have on your vest and where?

Kabar fighting knife belt mounted. It's a little big though.

Look into the Kabar TDI. great knife, made for the application your looking for. They come if different sizes and blade types too.

i put a gerber lmf 2 on my left shoulder face down. i have bigger hands too and it fits perfectly. i do have one problem with it though. when i pull it out the top molle snap keeps coming unsnapped. not sure if it's cuz the sheath is still brand new and not worn in enough or just got a bad snap

* Edit * I use a quick release D ring to secure the top of the sheath... completely secure and it's fast to remove if I want to switch the knife to my belt

Little bro carried a cold steel recon tanto. Parallel to his belt in the small of his belt. My army runs were as a fobbit. So I'm just posting to read the input.

Kershaw camp10 on the outside of my backpack, for, well, camp duties. Boker applegate at 45 degrees handle down, weak side, soon to be replaced by a zero tolerance in a pistol magpouch.

Could you bring your own if you wanted to?

It was mine. My brother was Navy so he bought it for me when I joined the Army. I brought it and zip tied it to my vest. Most guys had a personal fighting knife on their vest and a folder on our thigh holster.

We still have the M9 bayonets but they aren't really issued. They usually just sit in the armsroom or in storage during a deployment. When I was the company armorer in Germany I had about 500 bayonets locked in metal boxes. They were only taken out once a month for inventory.

I imagine it's very much unit dependent, but how much latitude did you have as far as bringing personal gear vs. issued gear? Flashlights, grooming gear, LBE pouches, etc?

All of the above depends on the unit and your chain of command. Most will have some restrictions. Most tacticool guys got laughed at a lot since we were doing the same thing with issued gear as they were doing with expensive personal stuff. Why beat the crap out of your own stuff?

I need a vest. When I get one this is where I want my knife.
Pics of yours? Trying to figure out how exactly to mount it.

Any problems trying to shoot weakside with it mounted that way? I would think it would be a hassle.
