What Should be my first gun

Interestingly, at any distance over 5 yards, I am now more accurate with my SIG 226 than I am with my Ruger SR22. I must say it has helped tremendeously. I agree that the conversions are way overprized, and you may just as well have two guns. At one point Sig Sauer had a promotion where they were selling the 226 and a 22 version as a two-for-one package for around $800. That would have been a sweet deal.
If you get a Ruger 22 .. I just posted this:

Get a nice 9mm handgun that has a good amount of preban mags on the market. Sig, beretta, even a glock is doable at around 500

The first gun i bought was an sr9c, I carry 17 rounds mags, but mass guys can only carry the 10 rounders. I hear the ma trigger is really good too. It's a great carry gun, and good for home protection. The AR would be beret home protection with the bigger mags, but it's tough to carry, lol.
A 22 is a must have for fun. Good luck!

Oh the sr9c fits in your budget, you can find them around 420-450. Adding Ma tax and you're under 500.

+1

SR9c such an awesome value.
i own 2 of them and love 'em both.
over 2000 rounds total no issues.

357 Magnum revolver, 3". Can use 357 Magnum. Can use 38 Special. Can carry it. Can range it. Can protect your home. Can teach your family to shoot. Can re-sell it. Jack of all trades gun and relatively inexpensive.
I say Ruger SP101 as a FIRST gun. No worries about racking, safeties, stove pipes, etc... Point and shoot. Get good at it then move to a semi-automatic.

From there the choices are endless...
