What should I buy for a full size semi auto

Hey guys I am looking to buy a full size semi-auto. I have narrowed it down to the Glock 20 10mm, or the Glock 21 .45. What do you guys think? I'm open to new ideas too, just has to be in the same price range.

45. more practical as far as ammo availability. Do you reload?

Mine does. [sad2]

what is it?

Gee, where's all the 10mm love? The only Glock I own is a G20. The 10mm recoil will be sharper than a 45 (not necessarily more recoil, just snappier). IMHO ballistics of 10mm are better, particularly if you don't shoot the watered down loads. However, I'm sure someone else will disagree and assert that the 45 is the superior round. The 10mm certainly shoots flatter.

However, as others have pointed out, the 10mm is something of a redheaded stepchild. Ammo is more expensive and harder to find. So are mags. Honestly, even as a fan of the 10mm round, if I only had one gun and was forced to choose between a 10mm and a 45, I'd go with the 45. Of course it would be a Sig or a 1911, not a Glock.[grin]

Honestly, the difference if terminal ballistics is far down the list of my concerns. If I do my part, a quality 9mm JHP (think Federal HST) will do the job. If I don't do my part, a .44 Mag won't do the job.

But for someone looking for their first fullsize auto, .45 ACP is a better choice (and 9mm an even better one).

Given the cost and difficulty finding 10 mm, it just isn't a very useful caliber unless you reload. If you do, then it allows you a lot of latitude. The last time I went to Alaska, I carried my Delta Elite with Buffalo Bore -- 220 gr hardcast lead going 1175 fps.

So, I have a 10mm. I like it. But it is not one of the guns that I often use.

Sig 220 if you want to pony up the $ for .45 or you can wait for the 10 round 227 (I believe).

It's a Colt that's had a good amount of (professional) work done on it. I guess it probably needs some more.

that sucks. dont' want to threadjack but I have a brand new unfired colt that's with a smith now and getting a very expensive makeover. I really hope it doesn't have any problems.

Mine went from no problems to feed failures with all but Tripp mags, which themselves aren't 100%. I suspect it has something to do with the new barrel bushing (which is now extremely tight), but who knows. I had a ton of work done on it. I guess need to try breaking it in a little more. If it persists I'll take it back to get straightened out, I just haven't had the time for it.

You're right, you don't need luck. You just need money. There are 4 G21 square mags on GunBroker for $560 or $140/mag. I rest my case.

$55 bucks in the classifieds & the case was never over cost however anyone who would pay $140 a mag is ****ed in the head desperate. Check that GB deal. Bet it's still available.

+1

I love my P220. It also has a rail, so sometimes I attach a surefire X400 (nighttime). For the day I have a crossbreed IWB & OWB - depending on the clothes - works really well.
