I been seeing all these beautiful ARs you guys keep posting photos of and its given me a bug to get one before I can't but one....However I really know next to nothing about these rifles....Any source of good basic info for a first time buyer would be appreciated...

Thanks

There must be atleast a dozen threads regarding AR's and the build process.. I would start by searching through the threads here on the Forum.

Otherwise your going to have to get more specific as to what exactly what information your looking for.

What state are you in ?

I live in NH...I don't really want to build one...just purchase one. I am just looking for recommendations on brands/models etc...

I don't want to walk into a dealer, pick out something that's pretty pay to much for it and find out its a POS..

I have ARs from Bushmaster, DPMS and stag and they all work great. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the major manufacturers or for that matter most of the smaller ones. What you should do is research the different configurations, and they are almost unlimited, so you get one the way you want it.

Define your budget and purpose: Weekend plinker? Varmint hunter? Service rifle competition? Fighting carbine? SHTF/Carbine class/serious use? If money is not an issue, I'd get yourself a Colt first and foremost. With a ceiling of $1500-2,000, my pick would be something like this:

1. Colt
2. LMT
3. Noveske
4. LaRue
5. Smith and Wesson
6. Charles Daly Defense
7. Sabre Defense
8. Armalite
9. CMMG
10. Stag
11. Bushmaster

Thats just an opinion formulated on some pretty decent research. You could also have a builder like our own John from JDL Sales, or Jon Kruger at Anvil built to suit....

I just read an article on the M&P in Guns Magazine, highly recommended by them, and I'd have to agree.

I've got a Bushmaster and it works great for weekend plinking. I'd love a Colt or Noveske myself, but...I'm waiting 'till I'm in a free state for another AR.
