I spent the better part of 45 minutes searching for a barrel for my M&P 40 on cheaper than dirt, midway, brownell's, gunsource, etc. and I could not come up with a barrel for my M&P 40.

I'm looking for something better than the factory barrel, match grade I guess?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and +1'ed!

Thanks. [grin]

I remember one of the members picked up a conversion barrel, from Wolfe I think?

I was hoping he might chime in and I could try to get a replacement.

I don't plan on shooting bulls eye with it, but I figured if I'm replacing it, I might as well get something a little better than stock.

Edit: Lone Wolf perhaps? Nothing as of yet, but I've got some new leads to chase down. :-)

The M&P40 is a combat handgun, not a match gun. I doubt you will find much as it is a relatively new design and because, unlike standard Glock barrels, the stock barrel does not have some inherent weaknesses for match use.

If I remember correctly one of the sponsors of the M&P forum had some barrels on his web site..Speed Shooters Specialty I believe.. Storm Lake perhaps..

Storm Lake does make M&P barrels. I ordered a 9mm drop in barrel for the M&P40 last week. I am still waiting for it. I don't have the web address with me. It might be smith-wessonmp.com. I have it at home, I'll post it tonight.

What type of groups are you looking for?

I can get some good groups with my factory barrel.

When the experts shoot it they get great groups..

if you think 160 is pricey try pricing a Bar-Sto product!
None listed for the M&P, but the average price for a replacement is about 350 dollars.

KKM lists nothing.

Looks like you may have an opportunity to start a business to sell your own.

It's not so much about precision shooting, more of the fact that Hoppe's #9 ate through the black finish on the barrel and I started to get rust after leaving it in the safe for a couple of months with the occasional carry. So I wanted to get something new/better that wasn't rust-prone.

Also, I looked at the smith-WessonMP.com site and they've got a Storm Lake for just under $99 which is a few bucks cheaper than a factory replacement. So that's probably where I'll end up going. Thanks for the input fellas.

[laugh2] Ohh yea, I'll just start machining them in my basement. My stepdad has some equipment for making golf clubs, I'm sure I could convert that stuff over for barrel making. [laugh]

figure out the dimensioning, the machining, the materials, and outsource it to China.

Or hand the Chinese a few S&W barrels and tell them to duplicate the dimensions in the material of your choice. Stainless steel # T416 heat treated 39 to 43 RC , rifled 1 twist in say 15 inches.
