Searching for a trap/duck hunting gun has landed me on a Remington 870 Super Magnum (just to be able to have the option of 3.5" shells).
I've shot several 870's in both 12 and 20. Shot Mossberg's, Benelli M4, over unders, etc...
870 fits me perfectly, I like how it looks, and I like where the controls are placed vs a mossy 500. Plus, at a decent price.

So my question is, where can I find a shop with regular ol 870's at a decent price? Sure they sell them at bass pro and dicks, but I would rather spend my hard earned cash at a local gun shop.

Searched at Pullman arms, h-s trading, bobs in Webster, first defense firearms, IDC, old mill gun shop, archery and arms, B&K sales, GFA, four seasons...
You get the point

Any gun shops stock these (at a fair price), brand new with wood stocks? If I can't find anything, I guess bass pro will be getting my $370

Thanks for the help guys

Four Seasons has a used one on their page now. It's not a super mag and it appears to have a barrel with rifle sights, but you can always get a trap barrel. Then you can use it for multiple things with a quick barrel swap.

Thanks.

The issue is, I unfortunately like to buy "new" the majority of the time. And I couldn't justify paying $400 for a used one when I can buy exactly what I want for $370 at bass pro brand new.

Hrmmmm

Tried to buy the last 18.5 870 at dicks and millbury today, I say tried because an epic shitshow ensued and we did not take the scattergun home. I will not muck your thread with the details other than to say....dicks sucks.

Hunt around and you could find a NIB gun that is 20-25 years old. Those are the ones I like....[grin]

Come to think of it, I have only set foot in one gun shop since the CT shooting... And that was in Washington State. EMPTY

Loki suggested some NH/ME shops, so I may give them a call as well.

I was thinking Dicks as a last resort, since I have looked at 870's there a few months ago.

The search continues

Pullman had about 3 or 4 express tactical 870's last week and Bobs was getting in a couple of 887's tomorrow.

i got my used 870 at Kittery Trading Post for a good price. HUGE selection of used shotguns. Not sure about their new inv entory though.

I've got the mentality of, if somebody is going to break something, I want it to be my fault. I don't want to have to deal with someone else screwing it up for me without me knowing.

I'll buy an AK used, and a Mosin used. Anything else I mostly want to be brand new haha

I'd bet KTP would likely have them, but I'd call the gun counter FIRST. Long drive if they don't have what you want.

My first shotgun was a used Rem 1100 Skeet back in the 1970s. My more recent shotgun was a Rem 870 Police Magnum (retired PD gun) which (although I haven't weighed them) I think, weighs much more than my 1100.

I have been told (NOT confirmed) that in more recent years Rem substituted plastic parts for some of the metal parts in the older shotguns. When it comes to longevity, those people believe that the older ones run longer w/o breaking than the newer guns with the same model number. Back when I was shooting skeet/trap every weekend (I bought a trap bbl for the 1100) I ran 1000s of rounds thru that gun and never had any problems whatsoever! YMMV.

Sounds good. Thanks for the suggestions everybody.

Looks like I'll be driving around this weekend to see if anything is in stock

Don't limit yourself to 3 1/2" shells. 3" will do the job just fine. Fowl were successfully taken for many years with 2 3/4" shells! It may be cheaper to find an older Wingmaster with a 3" chamber. It's all you'll need.

True... I guess I just don't want to regret not having it, when it's only like $40 more or so.

The 870 Super mag will fire 2 3/4, 3 and 3 1/2's. You may be better off getting the combo version of it. There's variations to them but you end up with your duck/trap/skeet gun plus a second rifled barrel for slugs.
