Looking at a new 1911 in MA. Will be my first, and for a while my only handgun. Primary use will be target shooting, secondary will be home defense, I may carry occasionally but not a lot.

Considering a couple of different options:
New S&W 1911
Used S&W 1911 Scandium
Used Kimber Polymer Target

What would you choose from these three options and why?

PC is a little on the high side price-wise. Saw one used this weekend for $1,400. Didn't like the fish-scale look.

I have a full sized steel S&W 1911 that was the first run the S&W did when they got MA approval. It's one sweet shooter and I'd never trade her. You can't go wrong with a S&W 1911.

I'd love to get a Kimber some day, but they are big bucks.

+1 on S&W. I prefer a steel framed gun because I shoot a lot. For strictly carry and a little practice the lighter gun might be a better choice.

I've shot the steel and the scandium and was surprised that the scandium handled the recoil so well. I'd still get the steel because even though I carry a handgun 7 days a week year round, I also shoot it twice a week. Heavy guns are more comfortable to shoot than light guns.

The S&W 1911 with rubber grips is the least expensive as far as I know, but I'm pretty new to this. Lists for $1,130 on their website and saw it at FS for under $900, I want to say about $850 or something, but not sure.

There are also some used ones to be had out there.

another +1 for a steel S&W.

I picked up a nearly new S&W1911 in stainless at FS for $700 with 2 mags. It has been a great gun for me so far.

It is a little heavy for long-term carry, but a good belt and holster could definitely make it doable.

I'm really liking S&W's new 1911 with titanium FP and no FPS... not sure if it's MA compliant yet, probably not.
