If you were going to buy one, which would it be?

I saw the S&W 9mm "Pro Series" in another thread. I checked it out on the S&W site and it sounds pretty nice.

I guess the other trick would be finding one for sale in MA. That could prove annoying..........[angry]

Come to think of it, the S&W version probably isn't MA compliant either.

On a different note, have a Sig X-5. To my taste it is perfect. Trigger is almost...not quite...."hair". Accuracy at 7-15 and 25 yds. is right on. Function is flawless. Takedown/breakdown for cleaning is simple and effortless. Also have the "Blackwater" edition....same results. Only mention these items because I am so pleased.[wink]

I'd love a Sig X-5, but, I know those aren't compliant.

Anyone have one they're looking to unload here in MA......? [wink]

(I hate to be the guy to post this because whenever someone asks about compliance about 10 people come along and start yelling "read the sticky")

However, I'll take that hit: is the new Smith 1911 9mm compliant? If the higher caliber is approved aren't we all set for the smaller caliber?

I've been eyeing this baby as well, although price tag is a big of a turn off.

Can't help you there, and at any rate am looking at an X-6 in ACP. Yup, I'm a definite fan. Also have the "Blackwater" edition. Tested it again the other day using "Bad Guy" targets. With the rubber grips that "fill" my hand, the "Blackwater" is a definite friend. No complaints, no problems, just something becoming a "friend" and "getting to know you."

Don't hate me..

People say the baddest things about Para. I have a Para Hawg 9. It's the 1911 style. I love it. Pics of it are in the 1911 gallery. Easy to clean, very accurate, no recoil ( I can pretty much empty my clip of 12 rounds like a machine gun at the target and hit dead on. ). Bought it brand new in May. Has about 600 rounds through it.

I always wanted to get the S&W EMP. Very cool gun.

No offense at all (I hope), but the X-5 can do the same thing with 19 rounds. Grin, no pissing contest intended....just throwing out info. [wink]

why would you buy a 9 when you can get a .45?

Why not? Depends on intention and use. Have a Kimber Grand Raptor and love it. Have had many 1911's over the years...Bullseye Matces....and enjoyed each.

The X-5 is great for steel plate. Ammo depends on the individual. Hell, my eyes are old, my reflexes are slower than they were 20-years go. Doesn't matter. I keep my basic skills in shape, have fun, and simply enjoy the marksmanship.

I alternate between the 1911 and the X-5. Not really looking to "win" anything, know I'm too slow to do so. I compete, try, have fun, and keep my basic skills sharp....in whatever caliber.

Because I have a "mountain" of 9mm at the house, and, .45 is scarce and expensive.[wink]

Okay, what the hell, I'll buy both......

Grin, if you're like me, you saw the writing on the wall and stocked up prior to the election of 08. Sought out sales on all calibers I use and stocked up on what I could afford. Still digging into my "stash" from when I was with a military team. It all works just fine and is still accurate.

Guess I'm one of those "lucky" folks that will not be chasing "backorders" from whoever in whatever caliber.

OK. But the Para has a 3" barrell length. Much easier to conceal then the 5" barrell of the X-5. Granted more rounds in the mag but I also have a second in my holster.

Yup, but consider the different uses. The X-5 is used (by me) in steel plate. Its great....anything else is me or the ammo. Not a carry weapon...although it could be.

Conversely, the 226 (Blackwater), is not something I would normally use in a match, but if push comes to shove, would not hesitate. Its a great carry piece, especially with the rubber grips.

Guess it just comes down to different uses and "different strokes for different folks". [wink]

Your right about that. Different strokes for different folks. It all comes down to personal use. What will the gun be used for?

I call this one a draw Ray. Next time though. It's out in a dirt road between the bar and hotel at noon. One who draws the fastest wins..[jihad][grin]

Grin, will just have to use my pants...no holster available for the X-5. At noon, will have had a Dewars on the rocks. Will keep the dust down from the dirt road. Have to make sure I wear the correct hat to keep the sun out of my eyes....high noon can be a bitch. Already told the hotel to have a steak and shrimp meal ready for me....always the optimist. Hmmm....need to put some bacon grease on the inside of my belt to give a faster draw. [rofl]

Steak and shrimp combinations are for wussies. I'll have my steak and eggs but instead of pepper on the eggs, I like gun powder. Then I'll drink my 45 special ( Jack Daniels with a splash of gun oil ). Makes by joints better for drawing.

As far as hats are concern, you must be an old timer. I prefer my sun spectacles.

Ummm. May need to get my spurs sharpen just in case I miss. [rofl]

Yup, am an old timer. Don't worry about the spurs....I would only shoot them off anyway...sharpened or dull...assuming the brim of my hat doesn't block my vision. [grin][grin]

In MA the S&W 1911 Pro in 9mm would be an excellent coice. Have you called four Seasons Firearms in Woburn to see if they are being shipped from the factory? Last I heard they were going to start shipping in the fall.

9mm 1911? Blasphemy!!

If it does not fire .45ACP. It's not a 1911!
If it has a double stack mag. It's not a 1911!
If it is double action. It's not a 1911!
If it's not a Colt, it's a copy!!

However I do own a Para PDA, and love it!

I carry a .45acp because I think the 9mm is too small for defense. I like the 9mm and shoot the caliber for fun. It's not only cheaper to shoot than the .45acp, It kicks less and shoots alot flatter which makes ir easier to hit with at long range. You unfortunatly have few choices in MA.

another option is getting a S&W 1911 in .38 super, there are several out there. they usually are match or target guns.
