It's time to replace the upper on my pre-ban Colt AR15. The question is, which one?

I'm looking for a 16" barrel, mid-length gas system, flat top upper, lightweight barrel, lightweight free-float handguard. I'm not going to do the build myself.

Suggestions on a top notch manufacturer? Noveske?

My friend recently picked up one of these, Excellent upper. Very well balanced and made for a fast quick gun.

Sabre Defence Barreled Uppers
Sabre Defence 16 Inch SS Fluted Mid Length with Daniel Defense 10.0 Lite Quad Rail
Features a Sabre Defence 16" 410 stainless steel, bead blasted mid-weight barrel. Fluted in front and behind the gas block. Mid-length gas system, 1/8 twist, 5.56 chamber, M4 feed ramps on barrel extension. Built on a Mil-Spec A3 receiver flat top with M4 ramps. Daniel Defense 10" Lite quad rail and low profile gas block. Includes 3 black ladder covers.

Includes AR15 bolt group assembly and forged charging handle. These uppers make very well balanced rifles.
These are assembled and test fired by PK Firearms.
Our Price: each $799.00 In Stock

Noveske, LMT, LaRue, Sabre as Mike mentioned, and BCM as Andy mentioned are probably your best bet if you want a quality upper.

ETA: I think my next upper is going to be a BCM 10.5"

LaRue Stealth is pretty nice from what I've heard.

That said, I'm very happy with my YHM and would buy another from them in a heartbeat had I the cash.

I have had a Sabre Defence middy 16 for about 2 years now and have nothing but good things to say about it. If you are looking for a good deal, Spikes has some Carbine length uppers pretty cheap.

I run one LMT and one BCM. Both guns rock everytime. The BCM is still new but the LMT has been the workhorse for nearly 3 years. No issues at all and nearly 8k rds through the gun and it keeps going with no cleaning and nothing but oil.

this -

i have a the Diamond 20" upper. son' bitch is heavy, but their lightweight model is just as nice, uses the light weight rails. they have a sale going on right now too.

i'd snag one myself if I didn't have a carbine already... [smile]

Yep, I have a Diamond 20" upper as well - it's a pretty good tack driver for something that isn't necessarily supposed to be.

I love my YHM upper but I also bought a Remsport upper from a friend, both are very high quality. I do love the YHM QDS BUIS though.......

Do you reload?

If you want something economical and fun, they say the .17 Fireball is very inexpensive to load, and you can watch your shots hit due to the low recoil, and it is STILL over 4000 FPS!

LaRue Stealth
Noveske

I have a White Oak Armament SDM they cut to 16 inches and put a crowned muzzle on for me. http://www.whiteoakarmament.com/

Inspired by the Army's DM-R rifle, this Stainless Steel barrel features 12 large flutes to reduce weight and aid in cooling. With nearly a full pound of weight removed from the first 12 inches of the barrel, where coincidentally, the majority of heat is generated, the surface area is increased by a whopping 81%. Barrel weight is reduced to just 2 lbs. 9 oz. The barrel is produced with match grade blanks in 1:7 or 1:8 twist yielding light weight and excellent accuracy needed for many applications. Fitted with the optional 4 screw front sight and Daniel Defense rail you can own a copy of the Army's DM-R upper.

It is very light and more accurate than I am.

Is there a consensus on a resident AR-15 guru on NES? I really don't want to start a noob thread. I have some knowledge on them, but many questions. Would like to assemble my own, not really "build".

I would drive out to Ludlow, MA and see John at Remsport. High quality parts and he's a wealth of knowledge. Discuss with him what you're looking for and he can show you your options. Then he can build you what you want.
