I think I know the obvious differences in Gen 3 and 4 Glocks, but other than grip adjustability, mag release side choice and the dual captured recoil spring, what else would/did make you pick one Gen over the other. Whichever one you have/like, please elaborate why you chose that Gen. For the record I am no longer a Mass resident, so I can get whichever Gen I want. Thanks for your replies.

I got gen2 because I'm not a big fan of finger grooves. But sometimes I wish mine had a rail for a light.

Put both in your hands buy the one you can manipulate the mag release better with, lol.

Gen 3 ALL DAY LONG!

better out-of-box trigger, less overtravel, less brass-to-face while shooting, I could go on-and-on about why Gen 3 > gen 4.
personally i would take gen 2 over a gen 4, at least for the 9mm models like G19

it's not coincidence that glock still makes the gen3's like 5+ years after releasing the gen 4's.

I have a Gen 1- 17 because one day they will be a collectors item, but I have a Gen 2-19 because that's when Glock was really hungry for the top market spot making a good product.

If your gen4 is BTFing you its probably broken... that said you're right in the respect that a Gen4 is more likely, although this affectation funhouse is usually confined to the full size guns. Glock will usually be able to fix it though. My current 17gen4 does it a little but only with shitty ammunition or limp wristing. I was a retard and had to sell my Gen4 17 i had a few years ago that wouldn't BTF with anything it was fed, but that was a gun Glock fixed. The problem with my current one is so minor i haven't bothered to send it in. My G30Gen4, G26Gen4, 42, and 43 don't BTF at all. My G21SF (gen3) will do it if you even think you might have limpwristed it. Strangely enough whenever i shot bowling pins with that gun it never btfed me though... Probably because my grip was optimal for that 10-15 second window.... lmao. My Gen3 34, and 19 don't do it at all. I briefly owned a G22Gen4 and tgat gun didn't btf at all despite being chambered in shitty .40 S&W.

The overtravel stuff... i've probably fired like 20,000 rounds through glocks over the years and never really noticed an overtravel difference between one to the next....

I'm a firm believer the older Glocks are better than what they're producing right now. Get a Gen 2 and buy a rubber hogue sleeve if you want finger grooves.

I had the opportunity to choose between a BNIB Gen 3 or 4 and went with the 3, simply because it feels better in hand and my Gen 4 17 Occasionally spits brass in my face.

I tried gen 3 and 4 in hand, and didn't find it made that much difference. I didn't like the finger grooves of either, so ending up not buying one. I might like a gen 2, since I like the gen 2 Glock 17.

I have Gen 2, 3, and 4 Glocks. In my hand, the Gen 4 with beaver-tail back strap fits best. If you are comparing them in the store, find a shop that will let you change out the back straps.

I don't really care for the fact that changed from an internal design that was very proven, but I haven't had an problems with my Gen 4.

better out-of-box trigger,

True. But now that I've spent time with a Gen4 17 I like it better. The grip texture, ability to swap back straps (medium with beaver-tail please), and extended mag release are all pretty cool.

If you're going to leave it stock, then 3. If you're going to mess around with the trigger anyway, then 4 because if the reasons above.

Haven't had good luck with gen 4's(I only do 9mm). I have a gen 3 but I hated the grip so I sent it out to be redone - finger grooves taken off and backstrap flattened, infinitely better for me. Got a gen 2 that's run like a sewing machine over the years.

Gen 4. I like the oversized mag release and the grip, the gen 3 factory grip is not enough for my liking. plus you can adjust the backstaps on the gen 4.

I have seen some people get stipple jobs and remove the finger groves. I know the finger groves are an issue for my buddy.

I have a gen 4 because it's the newest and most modernized (no idea why anyone gravitates towards the older generations, aside from a couple small things with the gen 3). I like the recoil spring setup better and interchangeable back straps is a big plus. Regardless of which version you get, I recommend adding the rubberized Talon grips, so grip texture is a non-issue for me.

I have a Gen 2 and its great. I bought it because it was easily available at a good price. Ideally, I wanted a Gen 3 because of the rail, but I don't plan on carrying with a light so it wasn't a huge deal. I wasn't 100% sold on the Gen 4 because I read they don't always like Preban magazines. If you're outside MA you might want one though.

I have had a gen 4 G19 for a few years with a good amount of rounds through it... Absolutely no problems and 100% reliability. Best gun ive ever owned

I had a Gen 2 but had trouble gripping it, my hands are just a little bit too big for it.

Next one I buy will be a Gen 3. I had a Gen 3 G23 that fit well, but I got rid of it because 40SW sucks to shoot in midsize.

So you just swapped out the whole pack?

-Mike
yes it was 8.50 at Lonewolf. Part # GLO-30275 (whole pack)Also put in the extended take down lever, 3.5 Wolf connector and Glock extended slide release. Only 3 things I do to Glocks, we'll this time it was 4.

Might try the Apex Extractor one day
