10/22 Thread?

I’m more of a Service Merchandise guy

Ha! I got my first rifle from Service Merchandise back in the early 80s. The 10/22 was too expensive for a kid on a meager allowance, but a Marlin 60 could be had with 4x Tasco scope for all of $65! I took this very same rifle to the range today and had a little fun. I upgraded the scope a few years after I got it, but other than that it is original down to the squirrel stock!

I'm currently putting together the parts to build a 10/22, and it's turning out to be a whole lot more expensive than they were when I was a teenager! Luckily I no longer have to depend on an allowance to buy such things.

(Holy thread resurrection, Batman!)
=================

since just about everyone has a 10/22 I'm surprised this thread isn't more updated

new to me 10/22 takedown model 11139. mossy oak camo pattern. stainless threaded barrel.

it came in this nice case.

With the Bushnell TRS-25 red dot sight on it, both halves fit in the case. tried a 2 - 7 x 32 scope but it made it too long. $60 red dot fits my use case for inexpensive bugout/truck/survival/50-yard plinker gun.

my previous 10/22 carbine was wood stocked. wasn't sure I'd like the polymer, but it's light and has a decent feel to it.

this thing was in the case when I bought it. Anyone have a clue what it's for?

I just started to play around with these. Got a Competition model for an Appleseed event last year, then I sorta liked it, so now I'm setting one up to play Steel Challenge, ordered a Magpul lightweight stock, mounted an SRO red dot and dropped in a Kidd single stage trigger. It's a cool little gun to play around with on the range.

i didn't grab a photo unfortunately, but at our shoot Sunday, one guy had a 2.5lb 10/22 with a 3d printed receiver, short barrel (6" of rifling and 10" shroud and carbon minimalist buffer tube, stock. crazy light.

That light you might feel some recoil, lol

I have an Outer Impact mount on my 10/22 and on a MK-III pistol. It attached more securely to the receiver rather than in the dovetail slot, and it supports more red dots. You should give it a look if you haven’t purchased yet.

The Ruger 10-22 is everyman’s .22 plinker. One can modify it to the point of being unrecognizable, or simply shoot it “as is” and have more fun than with any other single firearm. Or anywhere in between.

I have two, both identical. (No. 2 is for my wife.) Stainless take-down models. Made only a couple of changes: Tandenkross bolt release and Vortex Venom red dots. Also purchased mag loaders, the disassembly tool sold by Tandenkross, and the mag disassembly/assembly tools by Tandenkross.

Downsides? .22 ammo is dirty; .22 autos get dirtier than bolt guns or revolvers; and you have to keep them clean. No big deal (especially with the take-down model, which allows cleaning from the breech end). And nothing can cause a brick or two of .22 ammo to melt faster than two people blasting away with 10-22s (particularly if you live in places where 25-shot mags are legal).

So far very happy with this little Bushnell TRS-25. Mounts to factory rail. Only 3.7oz weight. $60 on Amazon

Third one - takedown. Is it legal, or you have to jump through the hoops?
It is legal. I'm an 07/02 FFL/SOT so I'm licensed to deal in NFA items. So no real hoops to jump through. I just found it on gunbroker cheaper than I could buy it from my distributors. Purchased it. The seller did a form 3 to me and when it was approved the seller shipped it out to me.
If it had been sold to an individual then it would have to be shipped to a SOT dealer in the person's state. Then the SOT would have to do a form 4 to the individual. When the form 4 was approved by the ATF the SOT could transfer the suppressor to the individual.

Mine is pretty stock.
I replaced the plastic barrel band with an aluminum one.
I replaced the smooth buttplate with a rubber one that looks like a recoil pad - but it adds an inch to the too short stock and doesn't slide off my shoulder.
I modified the bolt release plate so it's easier to release the bolt when held open by just pulling and releasing.
I waffle between a scope and basic iron sights - either are good enough for what I do.
