1898 Krag clean up

So I just got my hands on a Springfield Krag made in 1899 (if my serial number research is right) and it was wrapped for God knows how many years in plastic and the action and barrel are completely filled with cosmoline.

Anyone know the best way to clean that out? Regular bore solvent?

I found some mineral spirits to try to get most of it out. I'll post some before and after pictures in case anyone is interested.

Had some grease in the barrel. Don't think it was cosmoline. Looks like it took a shit all over my work bench.


Figured as much...
