Shit! Just what I need. My older granddaughter is probably already pestering my son for one, and since he's got the good sense to say no, she'll be on my case for one this weekend. Happy f*&kin' Fathers' Day. [angry]

This weekend, I saw a report on the Gun Buyback. The cop they interviewed was very amused, stating that only a small amount of guns being turned in were cheap, and were "worth more than a $200 Target gift card". The report went on to say that a good percentage of the guns being turned in have been sucessfully traced back to owners who lost them in break-ins and other theft. Then they went on to say that they'd all be melted to be turned into manhole covers, "A much better use".

No attempt is going to be made to return these guns to their original owners, who they apparently have been traced to?

Am I missing something here? Or does "Hizhonor's" direction to have a presumed unlicensed individual transport a firearm in the fair city of Boston exempt them from the state requirements to be properly licensed.

Gun buyback nets allies on MySpace
By Laurel J. Sweet
Monday, June 26, 2006

The hottest new hit on MySpace.com isn’t a wacko with a manifesto, but a teetotaler Gemini who’s into firearms reduction.
As of early last night, 183 “friends” had linked their MySpace profiles and their moral support to Boston Gun Buyback, a peacekeeping police initiative that so far this month has taken 382 firearms off the city’s streets and put Target gift certificates into the hands of those ready to trade, “No questions asked.”
Authorities said they turned to MySpace “because of its enormous popularity with young people and its force in youth culture.” But to reach the inner circle, they had to fill out an online questionnaire.
Thus, Boston Guy Buyback is a single, 20-year-old female from Boston, whose heroes include slain activist Martin Luther King Jr. and Kai Leigh Harriott, a now 6-year-old Dorchester girl paralyzed by a stray bullet in 2003.

“Check it, the Boston Gun Buyback is a good step,” writes “Shikiboo” of Roxbury. “All of those guns . . . could have added up as lives taken instead. Big up to Mayor Menino, Target and all the people who turned in the guns.”

Hey, this could be a good site for RKBA! type activism. Can you say "Friend of GOAL"? I knew you could.

That Beretta is sweeet (the Inox, not the one with wood grips).

Though, ladies and gentlemen, did ANY of you see a lock of any kind in those pictures? What sort of example are they setting for the children?

oh wait- I reviewed the pics again (after wiping some drool off the screen, there are a handful I gladly would have paid $200 for) and it does appear that a few of the guns have ties in/on them. Like the derringer in the last frame. That's the first one I would have tied up, too. Those things are likely to go off by themselves. Guns do that, that's why they're so bad.

Hey....I wonder if any of the guns they bought back ever made it back to the street. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't volunteer that info. but do you think that could be found out?

382 firearms illegally purchased (no federal or state transfer paperwork) for $200 each

equals

$76,400 that coould have gone to paying an officer to go arrest the criminals that are causing the crime.

Hope that free TV coverage was a good ROI for that money.
