2024 Fishing Thread

Finally hooked into some decetn fish. They were all on teh other side of the lake. Spent 3 hours on Sat AM and picked up about a dozen in total. Best was a couple of Larry's that we have barely seen this year. Biggest was around 3.5 and I nabbed on a jig. I thought it was snagged in some lilypad roots. Pulled a bit and paused. The line started moving sidways. OHYEAH!!!!!

Fun day. Sadly, it's gonna be rainy and windy the next two weekends so I may not get out again. :(

Pics or it didn't happen 😎

Looks like next Sat is my last time out. :(. I always hem and haw leaving the boat in too long. But it's supposed to be nice AND calm on Sat AM. Go fishing then put the trailer in teh water, digs some holes for the tires (it's a very shallow section of the lake) and pull like crazy to get it on the trailer. Gotta spend some time cleaning it out first. A summer's worth of just accumulated fishing junk all over.

Getting back into Kayak/canoe fishing. Picked up a used Lifetime 10Ft Kayak a few weeks ago to service double duty as a fishing and waterfowl hunting rig.
I've fished out of it way more than I've hunted so far LOL. It's been years since I kayak fished and I forgot how fun it is.
I see a peddle driven fishing kayak in my future.
Most pics are from a nice quite pond I've been hitting to get comfortable in it.

This Lunker was from today. Different spot though.. busy lake that's known as a good Largemouth spot.

Ended up with this mount system from Billie Bars for the back of the Gladiator and really like it. Pretty easy to take on and off by myself and still gives me the truck bed for decoys and other crap. My rods travels on the Thule racks so they are not bouncing around the bed.

Nice pics.

i suggest holding them vertical for less stress on their jaw or use a second hand under their belly.

Last day out on Sat. We bagged 7 or 8 fish in about 90 minutes. Fall fishing seems to be a bit more active. Then we spent an hour cleaning and pulling the boat from the water. (It's really shallow so it's hard to get the thing out. We end up digging holes for the trailer tires or we'd be above teh gunwales of the truck in order to get the trailer wet enough. I think dish soap on the bunks next year. LOL)

Fun year. Not as many days on the water as I wanted. Hope to change that next year.

Same with Stripahz around here, I believe. Still a tad too early. Well, it was last week. I'd have to check with my SIL. His problem is the junkies around the fishing areas. Maybe it's getting too cool at night for them. LOL

Probably no junkies hanging around the salmon spots. We could send you some. ;)

Yesterday, I was checking out webcams in Tampa. There's a YT channel that rotates a collection of live views. Each view resembled a ghost town. Not a car on the road, nobody on the beaches. But then the view switched to camera focused on a channel with an outgoing tide, and there were two guys fishing either side of the channel.

The birds were blowing up on Mt Hope Bay this afternoon just south of the Braga Bridge. My SIL was looking longingly thru the binos. I told him to go home and grab his kayak. He said it was all packed up for the year. :(.

There was one boat out there. He must have been killing it.

Monster 68-pound record-breaking fish caught and released in Texas
After fisherman Art Weston caught the pending world-record-sized smallmouth buffalo fish during a trip to Austin, Texas, he captured footage of his fishing guide, Austin Anderson, releasing the beast back into Decker Lake.

Since I have no picture of a recent catch, I will not start a new thread.

Now that I'm working on settling into a place in Maine, I took a look at their fishing regs - wow. It looks like I'm going to have to spend some time creating a cheat sheet for the various bodies of water, to keep track of the restrictions. I'll be in the northern reaches of the South zone, so fishing in the fall can still happen. I'm now gathering some gear for hard water but might not make it out there until next season.

What's a good spud bar for checking the ice? Are those 2-piece deals worth buying? They look like they might have some annoying slop in them.
