.22 for girlfriend help!

[If your going to just wing it buy a mkIII ruger. I would go for a nice revolver in 22 but hard to find in the 300 range.
After that go to a rental range and try out some opptions.
watch it with those hahhah's if your girl friend decides she is serious about shooting she will be laughing at you. There eyes and fine motor skills tend to be better than ours when the focus and try.....my wife shoots pistol bettercthan me when she applies her self.
Yes sometimes she out shoots me but thats usually at the begening before her hands get tired. I would concider a 9mm but not looking to spend to much more than 300 at the moment

I've got a Mosquito, and as much as I liked shooting it, I can no longer recommend buying one. After several thousand rounds, the extractor on mine cracked, and is no longer ejecting reliably. Flaw in the metal, who knows. Not a common issue with the Mosquito, not a design flaw, just bad luck. Not a reason to not buy one.

What I do consider a reason to not buy one is that Sig doesn't have spare parts. Recoil springs and magazines - that's it. They want me to send it back - for an extractor. I'm sure their service department will take care of it, but I know I'm going to spend a lot more in shipping than ordering an extractor would have cost. If I'm going to keep a pistol for the long haul, I really want the ability to buy spares so I don't have to ship it back for little stuff.

So, Ruger Mk I/II/II, ( I have a MkII that's been great), S&W 22A should be a bit cheaper, Walther P22 was a nice shooter and way too small for my hands, or the S&W 17/617 revolvers.

I would like to try the SR22 and the M&P 22 pistols. One of those would replace the skeeter nicely.

Ruger SR22 - $300 cash at Four Season. It's super fun and easy to take care of - no problems of any kind after 1,000+ rounds, shoots any kind of ammo . (I am a female - my screen name is one of my dogs)

Her hands get tired cause she ain't had enough time to get used to it...watch out hahahah....

The only person who can tell you is your girlfriend. It's all about fit and comfort in her hand. The gun she likes is the gun she's going to want to shoot. You can come up with the perfect gun on paper, but if she decides she doesn't like it, it ain't going to work.

It's hard to even come up with a logical guess. I got my ex into shooting, she was 4'11" and 110lbs soaking wet, and her favorite gun to shoot was a 92FS. Go figure...

The best thing you can do is take her to a gun shop, or a range with rental guns, let her try out as many guns as possible, and let her pick one. And hope she picks a Ruger Mk III and not a P22.

Has she tried 9mm at all? I find .22 gets boring fast for a lot if people.
Funny you should say that - I've actually gotten back into shooting my .22s in a serious way after years of letting them collect dust for the most part. With the price of ammo these days, I find myself shooting 200-300 rounds of .22 a week to stay in good shooting habits while I only shoot my 9mm about 100 rds a month.

I agree. If you get bored shooting .22LR, you're doing it wrong. There's more to shooting than the bang.

SR22. My sister is not a fan of 38 Special or 9MM, but no fear shooting .22 with my Ruger.
When there is no fear, her shots are in the black. 9MM, she's luck to hit the paper.

I personally like the Ruger 22/45. You've got the MkIII receiver/action on a polymer 1911-ish frame. I've had zero issues with mine, and I think I got it for about $275 new.

tack driver and more fun than a (fill in dumb cliche)[grin]

same boat for my wife. thought she would like the 92fs, but that was a no go. Looking to pick up an SR22 when FS has them in stock again

I have a Mark I and I LOVE it - reliable and accurate. My wife also loves the gun but one thing that bugs her is the Magazine release. On the Mark I and Mark II the mag release is in the bottom of the handle. I requires pushing a release and pulling the mag at the same time. If you have any fingernails at all, it can be a pain in the butt (her description - I don't have any issues with it...) The Mark IIIs have a push button mag release but then you get into the version with the chamber loaded indicator and mag disconnect 'features'.

my girlfriend shot my mark III and that was the first time she ever shot a firearm, she still likes to shoot it. for 9mm she really likes my 92FS. for .22 rifle she likes the 10/22. she's got her own AR-15 now so that's not an issue for a larger caliber.

if you can find some steel to shoot with the .22s it will never get boring. shooting steel is a laugh and a half.

At the Andover sportsmens club they have the steel targets outside so i always perfer to go outside. But its so dam cold!

any experiance with the sr22?

This. Well worth the $400 msrp. Smaller and more easily carried than the MIII's. More reliable from what I hear - I don't own the SR22 but I do shoot a MIII. It used to be a stovepipe machine. It's tolerable now. Seems to be at least partially magazine related.

my SR22 is running great, i bought it to plink with and as something my wife could learn to shoot on. I had fun with it but more importantly she enjoyed shooting it (first time she enjoyed shooting a handgun). Hope i can build her up to shooting the bigger stuff.

i saw a mosquito at the local gun shop for 187!! but i read soem review people were not to happy

you will find some people not happy with everything. I would suggest you see if you can meet up with someone and have the gf try their 22 before you buy anything. I have a mosquito and absolutely love it. not really a fan of the rugers but then again I haven't really shot them much. I also have a 22 revolver.

I have no experience with the SR22. I did own both the Walther P22 and the Sig Mosquito. Nothing but problems with the Mosquito, and the P22 ran like a machine. On the other hand, my friend had a Mosquito as well, and his ran fine.

I don't think any of my babbling helps in any way [rofl]
