Basically, Im looking for a .45 with the highest capacity possible. Been thinking of getting a .45 for a while. Im not so crazy about the fact that a lot of 1911's hold 7-8 rounds. The Glock21 holds 13 rounds, iirc. Any other models with similar or higher capacity? Im in MA, so if its 10+, it has to be pre ban. I saw a video of a RIA 1911 A2 which had a 17 rd capacity, not sure if its been around long enough to be pre ban though.

I have to admit, Im a sucker for high cap mags. 11's better than 10, 30 better than 20, etc. (What can I say?). I'd imagine the weight could be an issue. I figure it would be a house/range gun and possibly a cold weather carry. I do like a metal frame, full size handgun, (92fs, 5906) so weight's not necessarily an issue, but if you're talking 15 rounds of .45, then maybe it is.

Any comments or suggestions for further research would be appreciated.

Thanks

Glock 21 is amazing.. Love mine

Its on my radar, just was curious if there was anything else out there I wasnt aware of.

How's the mag availability and pricing? Any trouble finding 13 rounders? What am I looking at price wise, on average.

Glock 21 is the way to go if you want pre-ban mags option.
But FNX45 holds 15rd of 45acp :)
But no pre-ban FNX mags :(

They make 10rd 1911 mags that sticks a little lower .

Para holds more then the glock.
The rock is a non ramped barrel clone of the para .

I got a 17rd mag for my single stack 1911. Carry a 8+1 mag in the gun. And have the 17rd in your coat . I've met some one at a meet that was doing that . Heck the make a drum mag for it .

I carry my 1911 with a 7rd mag and most of the time I don't even carry a spare .

17 rd single stack? How long is it?

i think it's really a 15 rd mag depending on how it's feeling it will take more lol.
I need to mess with it more. It also has a weird problem that the mag can go to far up in the magwell.
you can see in the video it locks the slide back , but when I pul the mag down with out touching the mag release the slide closes and chambers a round.

its just a range toy lol. I know some people have ones that run with no problems . Ps this is a preban that my dad got in the early 90's and have to me when he heard I bought a 1911 last year. So don't drone me Marsha

Glock hi caps generally run for about $50. They come up frequently in the classifieds here. Obviously they are used.

10 Round 1911 mags are $25-30 new. There are some pre-ban 1911 mags out there that hold 15 or 20 rounds, but the are comically long and don't have a great reputation for reliability.

Apart from the magazines, Glocks and 1911 are very different. I'd make my choice based on feel and function rather than capacity.

Also, in keeping with the spirit of the internet I should point out that you should choose neither and instead get a Glock 26 and a dozen 33 round mags.

As you did not specify handgun or long gun, I suggest the Auto Ordnance 1927. There are pre ban 100 rd mags available.

Thought it was kind of obvious I was referring to a handgun, but technically, you're right.

Thanks for the heads-up on the AO '27. That looks like it would be a ton of fun.

What you want is standard cap. magazines not neutered magazines.
Glock is probably your best bet for finding pre-ban mags.
Enjoy your new gun when you get it.

Well hi-cap sucker (your term not mine) I'd say that hitting your intended target and neutralizing it with the first shot is the most important thing and not spray and pray. Expecting thousands of post-Zimmerman rioters attacking you? A handgun is what you use to get to your rifle .

But on to the question at hand: I'd avoid Para like the plague until we find out if the new owners have improved QC. STI is the way to go, but I'm not sure if pre-ban mags are available.

I have seen up to 25 round mags for a 1911, and these go back decades. They are still out there but of dubious provenance, and were never very reliable. Gun show oddities, really...but such devices do exist.

LOL. So you're a "less is more" type of guy? Do you load more than one round in your gun? WHY?!?!? Maybe you use your derringer to get to your single shot? [smile]

I dont really lose any sleep over Trayvon rioters, zombies (maybe Im repeating myself), or anything else. I do believe that if I had to draw my pistol, it would be in a situation where my life is in jeopardy. Im not naive enough to believe that being relaxed at the club and shooting at a stationary piece of paper is the same as having your life threatened by a stranger, with your mind racing, heart pounding, adrenaline pumping and all that. I wouldnt say my game plan is spray and pray, but I do like to have options. Just being realistic. Im not sure how realistic it is for anyone to expect to "hit(ting) your intended target and neutralizing it with the first shot" and to be confident enough to basically bet their life on it. If I was that good, I'd just shoot the gun out of the other guys hand. [wink] Plus shooting is way more fun than loading mags.

As far as Para goes, Ive heard the same things. A guy earlier in the thread stated they were once ok, quality wise, but have gone downhill since. Also, arent they the ones that Four Seasons refuses to stock due to quality and customer service issues? I'll have to do more research on them. The STI name is new to me, I'll check them out.

This thread you go on for years, but with no new high cap magazines available here in Mass, I don't think you can do better than a Glock 21.

G21 is the way to go, I was shooting mine this weekend and it is a nice gun.
I must admit it is a bit big for my hands but I love shooting .45

14+1 is hard to beat if you have the pistol running right. Para's are high capacity, but they won't work right unless you spend another $200-$300 at a gunsmith to fix them. Mine functions flawlessly but it is a '90s version and it is gunsmith "tuned."

10-round mags are available for it, but they don't drop freely from my pistol. Pre-bans are out there, but they are scarce.

YMMV.

Glock21 for the ninja win!

Or just go with a modern 9mm and get 18 rounds in the gun.

Depends on when the Para was made. In recent years, very true (from what I've read). Back in the early/mid 90's Para actually had quality in their products.

I'd have to second this. I have a P14 Limited .45 with a double stack since about '97 and never had a jam. Very nice gun and the mags are good too.

had a para P-14 for a bit.
it was ok, but i hate the fact that their parts ( even in standard single stack frames ) aren't interchangeable with everyone else's 1911's
