anyone have and care to share info on 6.5MPC? its an SSK/JD Jones cartridge.

to me perks over 6.5 grendel and 6.8SPC:
223 rem parent case(reloading availability)
223/556 bolt
no mag modification (aka prebans good to go and not butchered)
6.5grendel ideally needs longer barrel for what its made for (weight)
30round mag holds 30rounds not 25-26 like the other calibers

looking for more hitting power than 556 without the weight of an AR10 type rifle and to not need to buy a new set of preban mags

What is the purpose of the round for you? If it's just for range work, take a look at the 6mm-223. No case shortening, just run it through the FL die and load. No issues with mags either.

Looking for something standard capacity with a higher bullet weight than 5.56 but more velocity than 110gr 300blk (have already). Might be a varmint hunting rig definitely some range time. Potentially go to home defense rifle depending on how much brass I convert. Hunting/home defense I don't want more than a 16" barrel

Not against the 6mm-223. Will probably do eventually. Really looking at 6.5 or 6.8 mm but full capacity mag volume

Here is the link to my 6.5mm MPC revival thread on ARF.com, hope this helps:

http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_121/693581_Revisiting_the_SSK_6_5mm_MPC_round_for_the_AR_15.html

Will be developing new loads and adding load data for the 6.5 MPC since the original
SSK load data left a lot to be desired...

With many new powders and projectiles that were developed since the 6.5 MPC was
was Introduced the 6.5 MPC deserves to be revisited...

Thanks.

Also wanted to add that the one I have laying around is a SSK 6.5 MPC complete upper with
a 20" SS 1:8 Twist with a 5R bore and a mid-length gas system version...

I don't disagree with any of your pluses or minuses, but for me the 6.5 Grendel makes more sense. The 6.5MPC is limited to bullets with lower ballistic coefficients, which can be approached by heavier 5.56 bullets, and lower powder capacity. I should say that I'm looking to build a tack driver for the range, not a light weight battle rifle. It is frustrating that their are only 10 rounds mags available for 6.5 Grendel but I have couple 5.56 rifles for use with standard cap mags.

The 6.5mm MPC will load 30 rounds in a 30 round 5.56mm magazine without much Issue...

It can use 120 grain loads that have very good BC like the 120 gr. Hornady A-Max as well
as the 107 gr. SMK that also has great BC and is usually very accurate in many 6.5mm
barrels...

I like to use mags that are capable of longer COL's like the 5.56mm H&K 416 Marine mags
as well the as the PRI brand magazines which will give you ~ 2.305" COL, In this case you
will be able to use pills like the 123 gr. Hornady A-Max's and Hornady 120 gr. & 129 gr.
Spire Soft Points...

I do plan to use the higher BC pills as well to see what kind of performance can be had from
the longer and heavier pills in the 6.5mm MPC round along with the longer COL capable H&K-416
mags...

I also have a pound of Lovex D063 powder which is a great European made powder designed for
the .223/5.56mm, .300 Blackout, and 7.62x39mm Russian rounds, etc. It should work great for
the 6.5mm MPC round as it is just a bit faster than AA-1680 powder and is a very dense powder
so it will work even better (more efficient) in the .223/5.56mm parent case...

The 6.5mm MPC should be able to achieve about 2,300 fps to about 2,325 fps loaded long to about
2.295" and using 123 gr. Hornady A-Max pills with a BC of ~.510 G1 out of the 20" Bbl. length...

Thanks.

Also wanted to add that I will recheck the case capacity of the 6.5mm MPC case (trimmed to length) with
both powder (AA-1680) and water (H2O) to see what the real world numbers are like using the same case,
usually Federal/Lake City brass tends to be the best brass for 5.56mm based wildcats (they tend to be the
most consistant and tend to have the best case capacity).

IIRC, the trimmed 6.5mm MPC case should have a case capacity in the vicinity of 27-28 grains of water (H2O).

Thanks again.
