6mm ARC Thread

i do see 6 arc as a very interesting toy, but i am totally lost of WHY i would need one, at all.
and its brass, the whole idea of the .223 AR is to shoot it at will and never bend over to pick up damn cases. when brass goes at close to a $1 a pop, it will be one damn grass combing exercise an every time you pull a trigger...

and .308 is still cheaper.
If your idea of a range trip is Tactical Tommy indiscriminate blasting and not picking up your brass- no, you wouldn't want a 6 ARC. Jeezus, even the knuckle-dragging AK shooters pick up their brass. Just get an airsoft and some biodegradable BB's. ;)

Kidding aside, it's an excellent long distance round and/or precision round. For the cost of a very good Bartlein barrel and a proper bolt, I'm able to repurpose everything else from an existing AR15 and build a 1/2 MOA rifle. The caliber is efficient on powder, easy on brass, and GTG to 1200 yards. Sure, it would be a ridiculous waste for CQB but that's not it's purpose.

Once you have the brass, it's a pretty cheap precision round to reload. I expect to get around 10X reloads on the Starline brass.

all stock complete uppers should be checked, if you value your safety. more than once i saw how they were done, well, sloppy.
if you don`t - you don`t, your choice.

i make my own brass catchers, so at the range i for sure pick it up. i just do not see ar15 as a range only gun. and if in the forest or on a go, i would not be picking up any brass if i am chasing any game.
If chasing game in the woods, you'd get tired of lugging around a 308 AR very quickly. There are a couple options in the AR15 platform that have more juice than 223/556.

Improperly gassed from the factory, so it won't cycle with multiple different types of ammunition, even with all 3 gas settings. Ejection port cover improperly installed.

Like I said earlier I always check an entire ar assembly before first firing.
If ruger drops the ball consistently with assembly, it still does not mean the design of sfar is bad.
To each his own anyway. We had a group buy here on sfars and I think no one had issues

I don’t have anything substantive to say, but will just add that 6 ARC is an adorable cartridge.

When compared to 6.5 CM and 7 PRC, it’s like the little bear in the Goldilocks tale. While 5.56 is just the donkey from Shrek and happened to come into the story.
