Which is exactly why there needs to be a three-day waiting period on ammo, too.

Permit-to-Purchase law has been repealed last March

North Carolina residents can now buy a handgun without getting a permit from a local sheriff. The Republican-controlled state House on Wednesday overrode the Democratic governor’s veto.

They had this when I lived in NJ. One gun per permit to purchase and you only had 30 days or something to use it.
 
What is a “waiting period going to do”.
All though in this case the waiting period didn’t apply please look up the Nashville Waffle House shooter. So many chances to stop him. Multiple agencies failed to do so.

This seems almost like a “measuring contest” between 2 police agencies, self dispatching really isn’t a thing in the fire department, except on 9/11/01 but with police departments it’s a common thing. In Worcester for example it’s not uncommon for hospital and college police departments who listen to the scanner to show up. These are typically smaller incidents.

The biggest issue I think with self police dispatching is the Boston marathon the whole incident topping it off with the police departments (per the report) basically surrounding each other and shooting the MBTA police sgt. oh and the marathon suspects didn’t have automatic weapons as the Watertown police have stated or maybe they did.. who knows the FBI report stated they had a Ruger P95 9mm.

Then everyone showed up waving guns around crossfire etc. I get it it was a big incident in Watertown also multiple 4th amendment violations.

No command structure just a bunch of cops showing up. It’s a mess.

This is why I always laughed when the Incident Management System was the big push.

It was supposed to eliminate dick-wagging about who was in charge, by making the first person on scene the Incident Commander, until relieved by higher authority, and a command post was established.

So instead, we had escalating levels of dick-wagging as every random agency showing up claimed they were the new highest authority on scene. Everyone with career goals and a set of freshly starched 5.11s and an embroidered polo shirt thought they were the new Incident Commander.

Meanwhile, the actual incident was handled by those who just took care of business.

Uvalde was a prime example of the brain-freeze that IMS produces.
