Is this genius that I am not seeing or is this as stupid as I think it is? It costs around $4400, meaning you could get two very nice 1911s for the same price or four run of the mill 1911s.

You missed the part where anyone that is considering buying one of these could give a shit less. Anyone who is buying one probably has a bunch of nice 1911s already... They're not going to give a shit about what it costs. This is one of those collectible guns that is completely pointless, but still ridiculously cool. I would buy it if I had money to burn. And that's saying a lot, considering normally I completely hate crap like this.
