All,

I'd like to add an AK to my collection before the new administration makes it more difficult. I'm a big fan of great engineering and solid construction.

I already own a PolyTech Legend. I'd prefer to get something a bit less expensive, but something that is solid, reliable, reasonable accurate, and something my son can use 30 years from now.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Rich

When you find one grab it, cause they are already jumping up in price big time. Even the mags are going up. I paid $350 for my Romainian 2 years ago. Now I am seeing them out there for close to $600. Best bang for the buck I have seen out there is the Bulgarian ones, very good quality. But still cheaper then a Arsenal.

Have you considered adding a little variety by adding an AK-74 type clone in 5.45mm? I'm more of an AR fan, but can't deny the awesome design of the AK. If I were to add another AK, I could justify it by adding one on a second calber. I think you can still find them fairly cheap. Zero Hour Arms has a nice looking one with correct looking East German furniture, bakelite mag and AK-74 muzzle break for $800-$900 if I recall correctly.

Speaking of ZHA, I was there the night of the inauguration and helped stimulate the economy. Great toys!!! Get'em while you can.

A guy from my range uses a VEPR and he swears by it. Has anyone used one of these? Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Rich

If your a fan of great engineering and solid construction I would have to say the best bet would be a milled reciever Arsenal AK. As stated above, post election most AK's have almost doubled in price.

Romanian AKs will keep up with any AK variant out there and some like my SAR1 shoot better with age.
Unfortunately what was once the crudely finished, cheaper alternative to the higher end AKs, and considered the poor man's AK has indeed gone way up in price.

Check the Marlboro show at the end of this month and be prepared to spend roughly $500 on Romanian models and upwards of $800+ on others. The only good news is the higher end models haven't gone up that much. Maybe 2 to $300 more than what they were last year.
