Looking to buy my first firearm. Ive been up to manchester firing line a few times trying out different things. Ive found im not a big fan of glocks... at all... my favorites so far have been a sig p239 (my current frontrunner mostly for the concealability), a sig p229, then an M+P 9c. Im looking for any input you may have including your experiences with each of the above or suggestions on what to try next... I'm anxious to make a decision soon because renting is starting to get expensive! Thanks in advance.

The 239 was my cary piece for a while - I loved it! Very accurate for a small pistol, and easy to cary. I had a 229 as well, and it was very nice also, but I never warmed up to it as much as I did the 239. As you know, the 229 is thicker and heavier, and since we are stuck with 10 round mags for it, it did not make much sense to me to have and cary over the 239.

I do not have much experience with the M&P, but I am also not very interested in polymer pistols, either. I much prefer steel or aluminum pistols with a hammer.

So, in a nutshell, if it were me to do over again, I would go with the P239. I don't think you would be dissapointed if you went this route.

Thanks alot jdesro thats exactly what my reasoning has been far. Now the question of caliber. Ive shot it in 9mm and .40sw and im fine with either... is one extra round and a little more speed worth it over some extra power? Also, do I even bother trying to shoot it in .357 sig i cant see where that would make much of a difference since its 7+1 in that and .40.... Still looking for suggestions on what else (if anything) I should try.

I don't really like the .40 in general - I much prefer the 9mm. It is easy and inexpensive to shoot, and it will get the job done if you do your part.

I do like the .357SIG, but it has a noticably "snappy" recoil, and quite a bark to it, but my biggest problem with it is the expense and somewhat lack of availability of ammo.

First gun should be .40 or 9mm. Cheap to shoot. .40 can be converted to .357 sig with a barrel swap later.
