Any ever write a letter to ATF re: change in SBR length?

I have an SBR stamp for a 10.5 rifle, but now I'm thinking I'd rather run a 7.5" piston.

I've heard you can notify the ATF in writing if you are going to permanently change the length of the upper and it's all good, anyone ever do this?

What if I just kept a 10.5 upper (which I own) and used a 7.5 temporarily?

Amy thoughts? Wish I had just put 7.5 on the stamp

i was going to treat myself to that ti-rant but the tires haven't sold, and now my ******* tenants are peacing out with two weeks notice... so money just got tight all of a sudden.
