Any need for AR15 Titanium uppers and lowers

i seen those..look nice. But i sent them an email for a quote for a remington 700 barrel. 22"-26" in 308. They came back with $900-925. Definitely on the high side for a cool factor.
Have you seen those new Proof carbon fiber wrapped barrels?

I saw some titanium aircraft forgings at Wyman Gordon maybe 25 years ago. Unreal stuff.

I think a better market would be if you could make a lightweight carry gun out of titanium. People like the designs and styles of the old S&W 39, Makarov, etc, but the plastic guns are lighter, so that is what people buy. Imagine a commander 1911 in titanium?

Just curious, what is S&W's "Scandium"? Does that have any titanium in it?

Scandium frame Smiths are forged aluminum that is strengthened by the addition of a minute amount of scandium. It provides the structural integrity necessary to fire .357 out of an aluminum J-frame.

I had this thought as well, but the problem with the steel S&W semi autos is more cost than weight. I have an alloy framed 3rd generation gun on my hip as I type this, and the weight is not an issue. The problem is that about 18 M&P frames can be molded in the time it took to machine a one 4506 frame. S&W would rather use their CNC machines to make 1911 frames and slides as well as the M&P slides.

I will say that a titanium slide and frame would be pretty cool though.

Now, if they could just make a Scandium wrist for me!

Sounds like an expensive solution with no problem. I'm sure there are enough fan boys and mall ninjas with high credit card limits who would buy something like that.

Need? If need was the driving force behind the firearms I own there numbers woudl be far less and I woudl not have nearly the fun I do. If the price is right I would not mind having a upper n lower. Who can't use another ar??

If I can make Tony miserable my day is brighter. [twisted]

Ive taken my share of chemistry classes, I understand that. However it does weigh more than aluminum, which the recievers and tube/rail are... which is probably where they made up the difference.

Ti AR lowers....

Seems to be the perfect lower to sit a 50 BMG upper on. Other than that, can't see it.

Small market, but you might contact the companies building 50BMG/416 Barret uppers and see if they'd be interested.
