Anyone else run a COMP on a 22 pistol? Why?

@G4Y4HK that's because there was an even shittier version of that shitty gun that comes with it from the factory like that, and it is not actually a compensator its just a chunk of metal attached to the barrel. [rofl]

That’s the factory 5” barrel. It has zero compensation. I have the nickel slide version bought from S&W Shooting sports center.

I tried one on a Mark IV just to see if it made any difference and it did. Without it, I can get all blacks easily on the 10 yard range. With it, I get 7 blacks and what looks like 3 flyers. Take it off and back to 10 blacks. Put it on, 7 and 3 again, every time. It seems like the 3rd, 6th and 9th rounds are the more common deviants. Why? I have no idea and I'm not going to work on finding a solution but it didn't change anything for me besides my score. It now resides in a box.

It's for looks only. Comps do not do a thing for a 22 pistol except add weight to the front of the pistol.
Did you ever see an Olympic 22 pistol with a comp?

I run them on rimfire steel challenge guns, more to deflect sound and help the timer pick up all the shots.

It also adds a tiny bit of weight up front, but I doubt that does anything.

It depends on what you’re trying to do. If you’re trying to get the utmost precision and your “rapid fire” stage still allows for 2 seconds per shot? No, they won’t necessarily help and they add some variables. A match crown with no torque on threads or airflow disruption will be better.

"Blacks"?

Yes. Well, ported if that counts. Walther OSP is factory ported/comp'ed...

I have a comp on my 22/45 which I use for Steel Challenge, if nothing else, it looks cool...

(I've replaced the upper with a color that matches the lower since that pic)

If you are doing any kind of practical shooting completion or rapid fire bulls eye, they help. There isn't much recoil and there isn't much gas for the comp to use, Its not much, but it's something.

It also protects the threads on the end of the barrel when I don't have a can on the gun.

.22 cans are the only cans that I typically leave on the gun most of the time. They are so light, they don't affect how the guns handle.
A Ruger 22/45 Lite doesn't balance right unless it has a can on it.

I just wanted to add that I haven't shot the latest and greatest 9mm cans. The lightest 9mm can I have is 13 oz.

Silencer Central Banish 9 is 2.7 oz
Silencerco Specter 9 is 3.9 oz.

Neither needs a Neilson device.

I'd like to give them a try.
