Ar 15 handguard advice.

Id like to start with my disclaimer. Im a newb with ar15s... Bear with me.

My ar15 came with a carbine length 2 piece handguard from ergo grips. The website mentions the delta ring is removed for installation.

Id like to install a rifle length handguard. I am fully prepaired to grind down my a2 sight post/gas block. I was also looking in the market of 2 piece rails since my compensator is welded to the barrel hindering the ability to remove the gas block and gas tube to install the new "delta ring/barrel nut??" That comes with most handguards. I was looking at YHM diamond quadrail but it comes with a new nut that the gas tube goes through.

What are my options? Im not sure what parts came with the ergo grip handguard or how its installed to the upper. Im not sure if i could remove the handguard without having to mess with the gas tube. Are there any handguards i can install without having to remove the gas tube? 12-14" preferably.

Im assuming you want a free floating aluminum rail. You will need one that uses the original barrel nut.
One if the easiest to install is the daniel defense omega, it is also one of the best quality.
There are also some that use the original barrel nut but you will need to cut off the delta ring, this can be carefully done with a dremel. Look at the troy Trx and Samson Evolution.

Also you can remove the front sight post and install a yhm low profile gas block, they sell them in 2 pieces so you don't have to remove the break on it.

OP may be better off with the cut down sight post gas block. It is pinned in place, tightly, and will not loosen and leak like a two piece screw together gas block is likely to do.

YHM will install anything you buy for free... at least it was that way when I bought the spectre length lightweight free float a few years ago. They also installed the low profile gb, and handguard endcap. Everything worked great.

your A2 sightpost/gas block can be cut off of the barrel. I would recommend just grinding it down to fit under the rail of your choice. I have done this to one of mine with not problems.

1) Grind down the sight post
2) Buy a Troy Alpha or Bravo Battle Rail
3) Install
4) Done

Troy Alpha or Bravo rails utilize the factory barrel nut.

YHM might be a good source for parts and work. I bought a .22 suppressor from them and they threaded a bbl for me for $60. A very reasonable price.

p.s. Fred's advice is good if thats what you want.

I guess, we need to find out if you want a free floated railed handguard , a free floated tube, or just a rifle length plastic handguard.
Do you want to maintain the ability to use open sights?

Whats your budget?

Part of me thinks you should just sell your upper and get a dissipator upper. Dissipator uppers have a rifle length handguard on a 16" bbl.

Troy Drop in free float with zero mods to the weapon.
These are longer than carbine HG's and because they are drop in / free float it will be a simple instal.
Why grind or chop on the weapon unless your name is bubba?

You are better off just getting the regular rail here for $169 and buying some tools.
