because military stocks .308, not 6.5cm. if it will get to the ammo scavenging, it will be .308, not the 6.5cm.
i have now 2 in .308, 2 in 6.5cm, recoil wise 6.5cm is much nicer. accuracy wise - debatable, i do not see a major difference, all 4 have a similar gas gun influx spread.
anyway, not to have a gas gun in .308 would be just too odd.
... scavenging for 308? ... 99.999% of NES will be dead.
You don't see a major difference on 6.5 accuracy? ... "come on man"
Are you talking about reloads or factory?
You can buy Hornady 143g 6.5cm and it will be accurate in almost all 6.5 rifles. No need to test several types of ammo.
It is not a caliber war. I just don't think it makes much sense to build a rifle in 308 when good 6.5 can be found for about the same price and it shoots awesome. 6.5 is just a good caliber, only rounds that shoot like sh*t is when companies start messing with bullet weights and doing stupid sh*t, because sticking with 143g, what works in almost every rifle, seems to be too much trouble for some.
As far as scavenging ammo from dead people during the apocalypse, if that is your LARPing fantasy, then stick with 308 and 556. It makes sense. Maybe a 50BMG as well, there will be plenty of that of that in those blown up armored vehicles.
my friend with the LAR Grizzly once mentioned a reason for keeping it is because of SHTF situations. He lives in a heavily wooded area where it's range would be useless and he'd have to carry the 35+ lb behemoth to a place he could use it.
I don't see a purpose to .50 BMG outside of shits and giggs.
.308 in there is still very useful on larger hogs and even bears or a moose. all .308 i load are 175gr minimum, 44gr varget - it delivers quite a punch.
heavy bullets matter.
and then pair it with a 8lbs ruger sfar - a win-win combo. lightest 16" 6.5cm ar10 build i have, same 4-16x scope on both is still 1.2lbs heavier than sfar. not a ton but, still, it matters.
plus i would not bother to pick up shot .308 brass from the ground if i had to shoot it.
