AR15 first timer. To build or not to build?

Thanks for the info everyone. I am now looking at Stag complete uppers. RRA uppers are looking good to me also. I still need to shop locally for my lower to see what I can get.

If you get a Stag or RRA make sure you get the BCG upgrade kit from BCM and have the BCG's properly staked. An improperly staked Gas Key is actually the culprit of a lot of FTF,FTE etc.

Stiggy - check out a company called "Legal Transfers" They are a NH based firm and can answer all your questions - I have not dealt with them but know a few who have and they get high marks.

They carry RRA and Stag products

Good luck

So if I order a completed upper from Stag it will be improperly staked??

Odds are not. Umlaut Arms out of NH stakes them properly for like $10. Again, an area MFG's can cut corners is to use locktite to fasten the gas key on the BCG, which is fine for normal sunday shooting but any sort of extended range time can heat the locktite up and cause the gas key to work its way loose.

A few dealers actually take the time to properly stake the BDG since its not that hard to do, especially with the MOAKS tool.

Good to know that Skald, thank you.

Sprocket, I checked their website and I like what I see. I'll be paying them a visit, Thanks!

if you are not in a hurry to build check gunbroker. i just scored a good deal on a complete 20 inch bushmaster upper w/ a2 stock, carry handle and a nikon scope.

Thanks again for everyones help. I just ordered:

STAG-1H Stag Arms Model 1H
Standard Handguards
F Marked Front Sight Base
Yankee Hill Phantom Muzzle Brake .223/5.56mm Agressive End

DPMS Carbine Stock Assembly

Stag Arms Lower Receiver Parts Kit with Ambi Selector

DPMS Carbine Spanner Wrench

This will all be mated with a DPMS lower available at a local FFL.

Contact us at Remsport we have everything you would need to build or we can build it for you the labor cost is very small and could be less then the cost of a mistake or braking something while building.
Thanks

Tax season is here and I am slated for a decent return. I want an AR, but not sure if it's wise to build one for a first-timer. I would like to spend >$1000 total. I want it basic to start off. Iron sights, carry handle and maybe a single point sling.

I've watched a few build videos on youtube, looks pretty straight forward, especially if I get an assembled lower. Any suggestions on this? Maybe a general direction to point me in?
