I am looking to acquire a 17HMR rifle, primarily for target and maybe small game or varmint down the road. The velocity and flat trajectory make the 17HMR sound appealing to me but i have no experience with it.

Now I own a boatload of 22 rifles and I like almost all of them. I really love my 10/22s, ruger american 22 bolt action and my savage mark ii bolt action. However, 17hmr is different from 22LR which is why i am seeking input.

So my question is not about rifles in general, but rather specifically which rifles chambered in 17HMR you folks suggest. I have never even fired one. It looks like bolt actions are my only options? I appreciate everyones suggestions or ideas.

thx.

I really like the CZ rifles in.22 and .17HMR with a heavy barrel. Its fun to shoot the .17 at 100 yards at full cans and soda bottles and see them open up ans fly around.

I have heard some talk about the savage 93r17 model having accuracy issues. Is that true or BS? I typically dont believe such talk cuz accuracy is usually operator error not a gun, but figured i would ask u people if this claim is legit.

I sold 2 Savage 17hmr rifles because I didn't care for the accuracy. I think they're hit or miss regarding quality.

I have tried a Savage 17hmr TR rifle and thought the quality, feel, and accuracy was much better than the 2 rifles I owned.

I have this Savage with the accutrigger and find its pretty accurate and its certainly fun to shoot. I read the comments on accuracy and will say this, winds affect this load a lot. I've missed by 6 or 7 inches on a windy day even after adjusting for wind. I like to use it for late day woodchuck hunting when the winds have died or are very light.

The autoloading 17hmr rifles all look amazing but too pricy for me.
i basically want a varmint rifle thats below a .223 but above a .22.
the savage 93r17 is most likely where i will end up. I own a savage mark II and found it to be quite accurate w good 22 ammo.
thx for everyones input! Super helpful!

There is one at my LGS priced at 200. PM if you want details

The CZ's are real good.
I went overboard with no regrets
Anschutz 1517 MPR.......I don't think I could afford one now.
Wasn't bad when I bought it

I have a ruger 77 in 17hmr. Its sweet and uses the nice rotary Mag's. The 17hmr and 22mag use the same ones plus they fit the 10/22mags if you have on of them.

i ended up acquiring the 93r17 that was in the NES classifieds.

sweet little rifle. the mags look cheapie but i've never been impressed w savage magazines.

agree the ruger 77 and the CZ 452 rifles are waaaaay nicer than my 93r17. but oh well price was right so i took it. thx everyone!
