Hi I just got a Colt AR 15. It has no bayonet lug so i'm thinking it is probably a post ban model Serial number MH0769XX... Could anyone tell me what year it was made in? Colt affictionados...

Does the rifle have a flash hider on it? If it does, it probably is a pre-ban rifle but I wouldn't bet the farm on it. Remember, Colt was the first of the AR makers to jump on the assault weapon feature removal attempts before the AWB to into effect. I don't remember why but I think it was something like the S&W deal without the paperwork. I think that they were trying to cover their ass in the eyes of the people and the .gov.

Yes it does have an A2 flash hider.

So it was made ~ 1991? Is pre-ban a bad thing? I bought it in Florida & plan on keeping it & shooting it till it's shot out. Is that front sight with the bayonet lug easy to install without messing with the accuracy? Meaning, am I better off paying someone else to do it?

If you have no idea what you're doing, you'll want someone to professionally replace the FSB.

Preban is a good thing -- makes it more valuable here in MA and lets you keep the flash suppressor, bayonet lug, and a collapsible stock on it.

In the unlikely even that you ever shoot out the barrel, you can simply replace the barrel.
