Just got a rundown on some planned changes in how Boston will license gun owners in the near future.

For renewals, Boston is planning on demanding proof of CONTINUOUS membership for the prior 6 years as one of their conditions to issue a LTC. So you will need to save your membership cards and be prepared to submit copies of them with your Boston LTC application.

This is going to be a real boon to gun clubs in the area! Braintree R&P hovers around 2500-2700 members each year, even though 300-400 new members join each year. MANY join to get their LTC, once they get it they quit the club until they are up for renewal and then rejoin for one more year, etc. Looks like Boston's Licensing division has caught on to the game and is going to change the rules. [BTW, on average there are only ~500 members of BR&P that actually use the facilities each year, the rest of their membership pays their dues and never show their faces at the club.]

Once this is implemented a lot of clubs are going to benefit in $ by increasing membership numbers, even though I don't expect those people to actually use any facilities.

The info was conveyed by the person in charge of Boston's Licensing division to the president of BR&P recently.

This is all perfectly legal under the "suitable person" discretionary issuance of LTCs. It is certainly an abuse of power and can be used to our advantage when we testify at the gun hearings held by the Jt. Committee on Public Safety (where our legislators pay no attention to our testimony). It's a good example of why all LTCs should be issued by Mass State Police to ONE set of rules (MGLs) and NOT by 351 mini-kingdoms!

Does anyone have a source or a link on Boston Mayor Tom Menino's stand on private ownership of firearms?

Thanks.

I don't have any link to point you to, but he's no friend of gun owners. Cops are okay, but we're too stupid to know what to do with them. [roll]

Surely you jest!

Mumbles Menino is a rabid anti-gunner!

I know, but I'd like a source. I am "debating" a guy over on THR concerning the death of the lady during the Red Sox riot last year and he is anti-police all the way. He claims that since Boston admitted responsibility that that proves that the cop were at fault. I am trying to show him that Boston is less believable than he may think and one of my strategies is to show how anti-gun the city is.

The mayor is a nice guy, and a decent mayor. He is certainly anti-gun. He blames guns for his crime problems. They need Crime Control in Boston, not gun control. The decent people need to be armed, and the trouble-making people need to be swept off the streets and jailed.

Anyone who has to ban the sale of alcohol to curb violence is in my opinion a Socialist. Granted he backed off the Threat, but only after legal action was threatened against the city.

The fact that he thought that would be a good idea, makes me wonder about his decision making ability.
