If you had to get a .22 lr would be ruger wrangler or semi auto like Sig p322 , Walter 22 , ruger mk 4 or something else on a budget under ?

Both (all of them) is the answer.

If you would have asked me 10 years ago, I would have said a semi auto like the SR22 or a Ruger Mark II/II/IV. For a semi-auto the Ruger Mark series has been reliable and isn't as ammo picky as other semi autos.

But now, I think I'd say a revolver. Just because they are less picky about ammo.... and now I think I need to look for a 22lr revolver to add to my inventory.

ruger mk4 hands down. i regret dearly all the earlier deviations, sold all of them after getting a ruger, mine is 22/45.
the other part of it will be - ruger will run great on subsonic ammo, way more accurate, and overall a whole better experience for precision shooting.

It really does depend on the purpose, but my knee jerk reaction:

* Taurus TX-22

* Non-budget, Browning Buckmark.

If you don’t want to feel left out, Ruger MkIV. But don’t plan to ever change the barrel to something longer, shorter, or threaded.

I know,im,Massachusetts limited lol
Plenty of ruger mark iv pistols to be purchased in mass. You mentioned budget.....what's the budget? If your looking for something under 400 bucks.....you can still find used mark iii for around 300 bucks.

What does the after market kit cost to make the Mark III take apart like the Mark IV series does? I heard about it over a decade ago now from a now closed gun shop (forget the name). They would do the install for people for pretty short money, since they had done so many. More was charged if someone attempted it and brought the parts in for it to be done. [rofl2]

If you have a small budget, the Wrangler is a good 22LR first choice. You can run any 22LR ammo through it, including shorts. They do have a model that will take the spicier 22 ammo too (as well as 22LR/shorts. Not sure if the regular just needs a different cylinder swapped out for that, or not (haven't looked into it).

I picked up a Wrangler early last year as a Cerakote project gun. Still haven't done that project though.

I know....I know. Everyone knows.....the mark iii is a pain to disassemble and reassemble. That's old news. The good news is i got mine for 275 bucks with original box, both sets of iron sights (target and fiber optic...which are easy to change out) and the rail to mount an optic. I shoot the shit out of it.....and clean it once a year wether it needs it or not....youtube video instructional saved on my phone. It runs dirty without issues. And its really not that hard to reasemble using the YouTube video.

Best dollar to fun ratio of any pistol in my collection.

I had an old Mark II ages ago (sold it back around 2013/14) that I just cleaned the barrel out and wiped it done where I could. Never took it any further apart than that. Working on the Mark IV (22/45) was really easy with how it comes apart now.

Hard to beat under $300 for a solid Mark III. Not sure if you're running a dot on it, or not. I went and got the direct mount plate from Tandemkross not too long ago for mine. As long as the rail screw hole pattern is the same on the Mark III, you could do the same. Makes it so that you don't have a piece of rail on top of the pistol, with a dot clamped to that. Reduces the height over bore for the dot if nothing else.

Tandemkross has a LOT of parts for different 22LR firearms. Both pistol and rifle. Quality stuff for not stupid prices. Well, for most of it at least. ;)

I bought my granddaughter a Savage 64 for $139.00 new in box no adjustable trigger but I was pleased with it, probably won’t put 5 in a half inch put its minute of varmint. We ran about 200 rounds through it no hiccups. Good value for what it is.

Did someone say SKINFLINT!?!?!?!??

I have one (but in black), Bought it for $55 NEW. Still have it, prob tripled in value (worth about $150 now).

Found out the safety was not really safe... Buddy fired a round off in my basement fingering the trigger with the safety ON! I did fix that issue...

I have a Ruger SR22 that's been pretty reliable. I kinda want a Sig P322. I also have 2 Ruger 22/45's, a MKIII and a few other .22 pistols.

Great for cheap practice.

I put a cheep red dot on it. Works great. My son when he was 12 could tear the center out of an nra bullseye target at 25 feet firing rapid fire. Was a hoot to watch him. Basically a mag dump but all in the black. For a 12 year old that's pretty special.

Do you have any guns with a 22lr conversion kit available for it? If so, I would start there.

I came to say the same. I have the 'target' kit on my Sig 1911 and it kicks ass

Oh neat, I hadn’t seen their “mini” conversion before:

Edit: another option for 1911 22lr slides is Marvel Precision. But it’s not budget

Personally I am a fan of the mark 4 22/45, but I did make a few upgrades (hard not to). Stock, it is OK, but with a few upgrades it is fantastic. Not what I would consider a 'budget' 22 though.

I am in the same boat. I have been putting up with the Mark 3 for years.. and I still have to watch a video every time I clean it! I got mine for about the same price. Great value, great shooter, but major pain to maintain.

What's the best semi auto 22 pistol that isn't fussy with feeding the cheapest dirtiest bulk brick shit? And isn't a mini-mag queen?
