I recently bought a S&W MP 15-22 and was looking into what kind of sights I should get for it. I'm more of less using it for range practice.

What are peoples preferences? I've done some research and found that the accuracy of a MP 15-22 falls off dramatically after 100+ yards (lots of compensation) so having a scope more than 4x might be more of a negative rather than a positive. The reflex scope seems to be much nicer up close, but having no magnification is a severe drawback.

Is there any scope out there that bridges this gap within my budget? I'm not made of money so I can't afford an ACOG sight [thinking]

I guess it depends on what you really want to do with a 22or.
How well do the MP 22s shoot.
I can shoot under 2" groups with iron sights (target aperture)out of a 70.plus year old 22 rifle. I have a 22lr upper that will hold 3" with a old leupold VXIII 2.5x8x32.
You can squeeze more accuracy out of a fine crosshair than a 2 MOA dot sight.
You can hit steel plate up close faster with a reflex style sight than a higher mag scope.
Have fun.....
This is what I plan to put on my 70 year old 22lr for a local

it's a 22LR so i wouldn't go ape shit with multiple optics, aimpoints, eotechs, laser doo dads or anything stupid expensive. the round goes slow and dies fast with minimal recoil. many options would work. here are some possibilities:

1. red dot such as bushnell TRS-25 or vortex sparc AR. if you go with the TRS-25 buy the one with a higher mount so it fits the rifle correctly.

2. magnified optic. in which case I absolutely LOVE the Leupold 4x28 fixed power. got one mounted on my henry lever 22 rifle. every time my wife shoots it she says something like "holy shit this scope is awesome". don't buy a POS $40 scope. if you actually shoot the rifle it will be a waste of $40.

any of these will get you out to 100 yards including the red dots. the advantage to the 4x optic is ability to see further away and be a bit more precise with your shots. that's about it. with a good red dot you can pretty much do anything you need with a 22LR.
