I see Bushmaster is having a sale this October - new items added each Monday and run for a week.
Looking around for what to get for an upper for my new NES lower...

Looking for opinions on the 16" Gas Piston Upper.....available this week for $699.

BURA3B 16M4-GPR

Any experience - good/bad ? with this....??

I am not a fan of gas piston systems. If they were so good all the LE agencys and the military would have only piston system guns. They don't that should tell you something.
Cost extra - snake oil?

Gas pistons are used in just about every other battle rifle being made now (FAL, M14, Sig 556, FN F2000, etc).

Time will tell if gas piston uppers will replace the direct impingment sysytem. Its ironic that when Stoner designed the AR he purposely designed it without a piston sysytem.

Military and LE don't buy the best, they buy from the lowest bidder or whoever the contract is with. With the obvious exception being SF and other 'elite' forces.

Wait until there's some sort of standardized system for gas piston uppers, although with a big name brand like Bushmaster, spare parts in the future will likely be easier to obtain than, say, from POF or one of the smaller makers.

Either way, I just see it as totally unnecessary.

I hear POF is the way to go if you want a gas piston system, but I don't know much about the AR-15 at all. This is just what I hear from others.

I *thought* I saw it at Riley's for 399.... maybe I was mistaken or maybe it wasn't a complete upper and just the gas system.

Supposedly that is a pof gas system with the bushy name on it. I checked the link but didnt see it there. Does anyone know if its still available? Thats a pretty damn good price for a piston upper!!!

nope, it is gone - the sales are only 1 week long, change every Monday. Ya, it was a good price....

Maybe......maybe not. This is the reply from them to my email

Still 699.95. that sale ended but I might be able to get the sales manager to get you one if you want. The post ban bbl will be 5 to 10 weeks leed time from time of order.

Do you want me to forward the email they sent me?

Bushmaster sold both a complete gas piston upper and a retrofit kit. I'm not sure about the kit but the complete upper is definitely made by POF.

Personally, I'd really like one of the POF .308s, or an HK417, but they're big $

State Line has a awesome Stag set up with a gas system awaiting one of us to go and get her. Paul showed it to me this afternoon, all I can say is.. WOW!

Any idea who made the gas system? right now there must be four or five diff makes out there. Who knows which ones will make it and which ones fall by the side of the road?

BM/DSA piston uppers are made by POF. If I was going piston (not knocking POF), I'd go with either LMT or ADC... or instead of that, a SIG 556.

I was up at State Line this afternoon, Paul has a new SIG 556 The rifle is MA compliant, welded and pinned and comes with a pre-ban 30rd mag. Feeling it in my hands today, I so wanted to buy it! But with my wallet with a 12GA hole in it, I just could not pick it up and explain another firearm to my wife this month! [sad2]

Bill - what was the price on the StateLine Stag piston upper....? any more info on whose piston system it is ?
**********************

I took a ride over to State-Line....talked with Paul, and he went thru all the AR's he had there, didn;t find any Stag piston rifles...He did have a stag, but it was straight gas system, not a piston...
