I was plowing my friends driveway and he came out to say hi. He said he was selling all his guns and while most are not really attention getting, he has a Model 94 never fired in the box with everything that it was purchased with. Told him I would be down to have a look. I suspect it it is probably a run of the mill .30-30 but not positive. I don't have any lever guns atm and this would be a safe queen most likely.
There are a few S&W hand guns and a nine shot .22 that he hunted shot with. Not sure what. Leaning towards the 94 and the .22 for the moment.
Not really posting this thread for any reason specifically. Just trying to get an idea as to how many I should buy.

I was looking at prices on the 94 and sticker shock has me scratching my head. New from Winchester in .30-30 average $1,500. Heading over to look at what he has later this week.
I'll bet a dozen eggs were <$.50 when he bought that rifle, shit is expensive these days.

Definitely buy it though. I am kind of in the market for rifles worth handing down to my kids, lever guns are pretty high on my list.

I get that it's not likely......but......if the 94 is pre 64 the buy should be made without hesitation.

I paid about 1K for my new in the box Winchester 94 short rifle......not too long ago. The new ones are made in Japan by Miroku, and are very nice guns.

The key is it a pre 64 WInchester...they are worth a lot more to the market, and should be bought for sure. They fluctuate and are probably on a down cycle right now as boomers are selling them off, just like other levers...but they will always be worth decent money and there are always buyers.

Its likely not unless he bought it used, or he's old AF. Those are worth less than 1K in reality in most cases...honestly if I was going to spend 1K on a post 64 I'd rather buy a new one. The only caveat is that even the post 64 made in New Haven may eventually grab some value from just being manufactured in the USA.

I would offer him a fair package deal on everything maybe at 60% value...because that's likely what he wants to get rid of everything quick and easy. Then sell off what you don't want making sure the sale on your side will be quick and easy by buying the firearms appropriately. The FFL's are going to give him 40% so your not screwing him.

I would make it crystal clear that the values are higher than bulk selling to you, but thats going thru the process of listing them individually by himself and dealing with a bunch of cheap ass tire kickers in the process.....some people get it, but some might get butthurt after saying they could have gotten more.

I have heard stories that some have old lever guns stashed but who knows......

Those are silly stories.....there aren't any people around stashing old Chicopee Falls Savage 99's or shit like that. Crazy talk.

Not that I want to offer your wife 50 bucks each after you croak or anything, like the rest of your "buddies"...... [rofl] [rofl]

Does the old guy just want to get rid of the guns, or does he really need the money. It makes a difference.
Maybe you can arrange a partial trade if the cash value is too much. Does he need any handywork done?
