I personally used to be dead against this.. but today's reflex sights are so robust, reliable and small I don't see why not. My LEO buddy has a G30 with reflex sight... he carries it everyday.

I used to make fun of him for carrying that all the time, but after 2 years of weekly range trips with him I have never seen him have a single problem with the sight. Hell Ive had more problems with fixed sights than he has with that.

Snagging isn't an issue IMO. You train to clear your clothes before you draw.. and it really doesn't add much size to the gun.

I am a huge fan of irons and can run them on any gun I have... that being said, if you aren't running an optic on any gun (within reason) your not running it as efficiently as you could be.

At personal defense distances, irons are faster. Dots aren't really a benefit until you get past 10 yards.

Take the money you were going to spend on a dot and put it into training and you will be a better shooter for it

If you can see the irons. At my age, I'm having a very hard time seeing my iron sights without reading glasses. I'm going to try a red dot and see how that works.

I'm sure you can see them, just not focus on them. Try using a target focus, it is faster and just as accurate

If you gave target focus a good try, then the red dot is really the only option left. That or just don't use sights

Perhaps if I was shooting s 1911, with a better trigger and better grip angle, I might do better with target focus. But I'm shooting Glocks these days and with that grip angle I shoot high if I don't use the sights.

My condolences

[laugh]

It is what I carry these days. Smaller and lighter than a 1911 with more capacity and faster reloads. Also I find that I have lower split times with 9mm than 45 ACP.

Of course, a .40 S&W STI might be a fun game gun...

thank you all, my .45 carry gun has turned into a project/ fun range gun, ive added a .460 rowland conversion to it, now id like to add the optic, because of the increased performance and range.the point of impact is going to change drastically shooting .45+p, super and rowland, it has fixed sights now, id have to change the sights anyways. ill shoot it at 100 yds at the range for fun, id still like to carry it. hence the question.
