I know it’s not bullets. It’s the same thing I haven’t cast in like must’ve been seven years now… I figured I’d just use the 5 pound pot rather than fire up my 50 or 100 round pot. It didn’t work because I still had fishing weights stuck in it last year. That’s why I stopped for the day…. also, there’s no good way to preheat the mold and the bullet release agent doesn’t work great when there’s already dish weights stuck in it stuck in it… on the large pot. It has like a 2 inch rim around the whole thing so you can just set your hand molds right on it to warm up then it just starts spitting them out perfectly.
The point of this post is I’ve always used 1 pound ingots in my 5 pound pot because you’re gonna just add them and it doesn’t drop the temperature but if you’re initially heating it up, I’ve never tried it. You can put a whole 5 pound in it in there. I only did it cause I didn’t have any one pounders around I could find and then I gave up and let the pot cool off and I realized I should’ve poured the lead out into my 1 pound molds. I guess when you don’t do things for a while, you forget.
I also skimmed out all the garbage off the top before I put the ingot in and then once it was full, I went to flux it again, but I use the warm ladle, the scoop, the wax the flux it and I poured it in there, but then I didn’t think about how they were still wax left inside of it so I stuffed it in there. I put it below the surface and it gave me a little pop and fired up a little bit amateur mistakes…. I didn’t want to fire big pot too cause it’s such a waste of energy. Usually, I only only cashed the weights after I’m done casting for a few hours of bullets.
Love it the weight mold has lead stuck in both sides. I’m just gonna wait for it to heat up and I’m gonna just dip the whole thing right into the larger pot till it cleans up…. then it’ll be ready to cast I’m just gonna make a pile of them.
Also, I never wear gloves before I picked that thing up twice with my hands on the inside of the mold handles and holy shit it was hot
