My grandpa, also born in Sweden, also died in 1999. The day before Christmas actually. He was a great man. WWII veteran.Thank you! I remember driving my paternal grandfather around his neighborhood in Shrewsbury (Bay View Drive) when he had Alzheimer's and he would become so animated when he saw the old house (he was in a nursing home by then) and start talking non stop...sometimes in English and sometimes in Swedish (he was born in Sweden in 1909 and immigrated here in 1916). I never heard him speak Swedish until he was in the last years of his illness. I still really miss him since he passed in 1999. He was a very humble man, tool maker, fisherman and loved great humor and loved everyone he came in contact with, and they all loved him too.
Merry Christmas (god jul) Grandpa! We shall see each other again someday on the other side.
Merry Christmas.........
To all of you that still have family left, cherish it.
For some Christmas is not a happy time.
Very interesting. My grandfather wanted to join the military but he had some chronic health issues so he decided the next best thing was to help the cause, He ended up working as a machinist at some company in Worcester (I think) making taps and dies as well as other things for the war effort. At his funeral I got to meet several men he worked with and they said he was one of the best machinists they ever knew...and this was before CNC machining. My grandpa, also born in Sweden, also died in 1999. Well, if the rain we've had here for the past 4-5 days shows up in NH, you may get your wish...that is, if it is cold enough in NH.The best part of the Christmas season is today through New Year's, I would just like to see a blizzard or two thrown in but it does not look good.
