Cops in Texas town get FN's

Uhh, someone had money to burn?

Maybe the chief is a masochist or something.... likes to pepper the
BGs with bullets hearing them go "ow ow ow! please stop shooting
me!" etc. (There was at least one BG shoot with the P90 where
that's exactly what happened.... )

The part about it being "less lethal" is particularly shocking- despite
the fact that 5.7 x 28 is pretty anemic in general, I
wouldn't go so far as to call it "less lethal". It's still a firearm
shooting -bullets- that were designed to kill -something-.

Almost sounds like they made a purchasing decision based on what
some gun shop commando told them. [laugh]

I really don't see the point- especially considering that LE could
get an FA version of the gun for probably around the same
price. At least when it fails to stop the guy they can just hold
the trigger down.

In practical terms the gun they just bought is useful for all those
calls involving rabid squirrels, chipmunks, and other small
animals. About all 5.7 x 28 is good for is the same kinda things
you would do with a 22 magnum rimfire, which is very similar,
ballistics wise.

Is the Chief a SWAT wannabe? You know, a sexy black "rifle", next thing will be a required use of thigh holsters and a commando chest harness to hold all those rounds.

Come on, get real....That NEVER happens in government procurement.[laugh]

Oh wait. That's how we got stuck with those portable radios that looked like Star Trek Communicators and worked as well as soup cans and a string.

They're pretty fun to shoot, though. [smile]

...But a replacement for a rifle?! I hope they keep a couple of those AR's in the armory.

Well, they're probably getting the real AP rounds instead of the sporting calibers.

PS90 beats a 9mm any day, and the 50 rounds doesn't hurt either.

I'd rather take a 9mm launching JHPs any day of the
week. IMO the 5.7 ballistics are downright terrible... about the
only redeeming quality is that the AP version
can punch through a vest, but big deal. Otherwise you're looking
at something which is basically an overpriced rendition of the 22
magnum, at least in terms of ballistics.

They're fun range toys (as well as innovative designs,
etc) but they're based around a cartridge that is, quite
simply, terrible- at least for what it's target market is.

Now, i f there were special rodent response teams, that
sneak around buildings in the night, shooting at enemy
woodchucks rolled in kevlar, then look no further!

Let me rephrase that as i don't think my intention was clear.

I'll take a PS90 carbine over a 9mm pistol any day.

Somebody explain this reasoning to me please, I'm not terribly bright

Thus, during a deadly confrontation where the officer decides to go to the use of deadly force, he will be forced to shoot the BG that many more times to stop him, thus increasing the risk of injury and death to himself, his partner, and anyone else, and increase his and the departments potential for liability in the process. Brilliant thinking…
