Do the batteries look 'safer'? I was always nervous to take my eye off the original UV5R cradle charger as it feels like it could spontaneously combust if I took my eye off it. Shake the wall plug a bit and sounded like something got loose inside.

Yeah it was just never “allowable” for whatever I was buying at the time, even though he is often giving the code out on his show so you would have thought it active. My guess is there are categories of stuff not included.

Klymit does a pretty good job. I have a pair of these and they work for their purpose. While they are insulated, it's not a lot - they're not an arctic pad or anything.
