I started a thread and it has since been disappeared. Is there a glitch with NES or is there a new "no notification" policy with the mods with making threads go away?

Jen, although I had nothing to do with the thread you are referring to, there is no rule here that Mods notify people if we delete (or lock) a thread or a post. I don't use PMs (PITA) and thus do not notify . . . only if I give an infraction is the person "notified" by the forum software.
That said, some Mods do notify everyone . . . like I said, we have no rule about it. I don't and others may or may not.
Something folks need to remember is that this board, like most on the Internet, is privately owned, in this case by Derek. That means the 1st Amendment does not actually apply because this is actually private property.
Now I find Derek and the moderators tend to run this board within the spirit of the 1st. However, if somebody posts something disagreeable to the owner and operators, maybe like starting a public thread to complain about another member rather than handle it via PM, it is completely within their purview to delete it un-noted.
I never said it wasn't private property. I said it was sketchy, arbitrary and "tough crap on you."
Along with most of the mods, Ross and C-pher, I've been around NES longer than basically everyone else and have gotten PMs when something was out of bounds or a hot button issue.
"Public threads" aren't public in the member's forum. Also it was posted as an Open letter. So, there you go. Anything else you'd like to point out?
. If your post disappeared, you probably have a good idea why it went away anyway.
It's easy to sit back and criticize, tell us what WE should do . . . but until you walk in the shoes of a Moderator of a very active forum, you have no idea the amount of work that it takes.
I too have been censored lately and will be participating less because of it. Moderation is one thing, censorship is a totally different thing.
Personally I spend 4-8 hrs/day, 7 days a week here. I am not retired and have other things to do with my life too.
"Just send a PM" and dialog with everyone whose post needs editing or deletion could easily add another 1-2 hours/day. Also, just like everyone else, we have a "limit" on PMs and I am at that limit. It takes hours to go thru PMs and delete the ones that don't need to be kept. I don't have that time to give for a volunteer job.

Back when we started (to address the comment about "what we used to do") there were few of us and few posts/day. Yes, I did PM everyone when I did something to a post. We've just grown too big to do that now, there are only 24 hours in a day.
Try to not let your hormones get the best of you. We do the best we can.
