Do I need to pin muzzle device on a SBR?

That's why I'm torn about my first SBR. I have a 14.5" BCM, so 10.5" w/brake isn't saving me much, but I've also read that anything shorter has reliability/cycling issues.

LOL, it is true. The only practical reason I have short guns are for using my suppressors on them. Unless you are a highspeed dude clearing cargo ships, short guns are kind of impractical when you look at what you actually gain/lose from them. When I go to the range, my light weight 14.5" (pinned FH) gun is what usually goes with me.

I wouldn't worry about cycling issues with a 10.5" gun, just buy a good in-spec barrel and match the buffer properly. I elected to buy a complete LMT upper and not worry about it. That gun has run flawlessly suppressed and unsuppressed.

Now, take practicality out of it, SBR's are cool because they are different and you look like a bad ass on the range. Some day I want to slap together a super short, super useless, 7.5" 5.56 PDW type upper because it would be fun and I have a box of spare parts kicking around.

I was planning on building my first SBR, a side-charging 5.56, with upper and lower from the Matrix group buy.

i'll second the LMT if you want a 10.5" upper. ed and i have the same one. the same can as well hilariously.

mine was only ever dicked up once, but it was by a french guy so there's that. [laugh]
