I was cleaning my new P229 on my reloading bench in the garage (concrete floors). When I put the slide back on and it racked forward, it slipped out of my hands, bounce off the table, and fell in slow motion to the concrete floor. [crying]

I'm lucky that this is the only damage, somehow the hammer didn't get a scratch.

Do I have any options other than sending the slide to Sig for refinishing, or cerakote myself? Any touch up pens out there that match Sig's nitron finish?

This is all after I shot 100 rounds with a light attached that chewed up the rails a bit (newbie mistake). So my new 229 has premature wear.

I will live with it unless there's a nice matching pen out there.

you know what. You should probably just sell it at a huge discount....you know...because it is dinged up a bit. And then just buy yourself a Glock....that's probably the best solution here....

your choice, but I would live with it. wont be the first scratch, drop or bang off of something you do with it.

Use a black Sharpie on it, and forget about it. It's a carry gun, not a safe queen. It'll get dinged again. Think of it like a new car, that first parking lot ding just sux.

Sh*t happens, like cars, the minute you use a brand new gun it is now a used gun. Don't beat yourself up over it.

Why do lights chew up the rails? Additional weight or frame flex?

The light I had on it is aluminum. With the recoil, galling occurred. Not a problem on polymer frame pistols. They make poly mount lights that wont do this.

Yes this is like buying a new car and denting it right away!

Oh well :)

Carry guns will get dinged up, scratched, and the finish worn on the high spots. A worn gun is a loved gun. Don't worry about it.

Meh. Now you won't feel so bad the second time you drop it. Buy used next time and avoid the heartache if it means that much.

Also, black sharpies can cover a lot of sins :)

I wouldnt worry about it..especially if its a carry piece.

When i was new to handguns. I re assembled my p220 and forgot to put the takedown lever in the locked position. I then proceeded to hit the slide release, throwing my slide downrange onto the concrete.
****ups happen.

I agree sell it cheap and you can buy 3 or 4 glocks with the funds you get. I mean everyone has those things you cant swing a cat at the range without hitting one.

It's just a P229. Leave it alone. Does it still shoot well? That's all that really matters.

Bummer OP - but shake it off. If it was a $4000 Wilson Combat 1911, I would cry.

As others have said, touch it up, and shoot the shit out of it. In 100 years your great grandson will tell his buddies that the scratch came from the day you had to fend off a grizzly attack, or when you used it to block a sword strike the day your home was attacked by Ninjas.

I vote to leave as is. Carry guns are designed to get beat on.

If it really bothers you I think Sig does offer a nitron refinishing service for slides.

Some people actually pay for a "battle worn" finish. [rolleyes] I guess you could consider yourself lucky. [laugh]
