FA-10 Paper Gone?

*checks my calendar to make sure it's still 2024, not 2004*

I've been wheeling and dealing guns in this state for fifteen years and I've never even sniffed a paper FA10.

Now EFA-10 on-line only?

Thanks

It's only been not a thing for well over a decade now. [rofl] actually probably longer than that.

Now that having been said, there were corner cases where EOPS allowed the use of paper FA-10s (eg, by dealers undergoing massive MIRCS service outages at gun shows and the like) but I don't even know if that is a "thing" anymore.

There's not any FA-10 anymore. Paper has been gone for at least a decade; electronic was dropped as a requirement a few months ago.

Yeah, thats the 2nd, more recent prong of the problem, using derivative logic technically there is no FA-10 requirement AT ALL right now.

But I wouild bet $10 most box store type gun shops and the like are still submitting EFA10s, and most privsales are using them too until they get told otherwise. Even if it clearly isnt legally required at this point.

So, never sold any guns. Got my 03 and after going over it many times I am going to pare down my 99's and I am going over everything to be sure I know what I am doing. I have set up my account on GB. My Son passed in 2012, Wife and Daughter want nothing to do with them. I'll keep a couple shooters.

No offense, man, but if you're asking about a paper FA10 in 2024, you don't know what you're doing.

If you sell out of state, I'd recommend you just go through an FFL no matter what the item is. Let them worry about the legalities. Just roll the added cost into the sale, state it clearly on the ad that the buyer will pay that, and you're all set.

I am in no particular hurry and am willing to make sure It's all good. It's C&R rifles 1940's through 1959.

I have Epoxy formulas around the country in Bridge Expansion Joints so I ain't a dope.....well...most of the time anyway.

Well, if they're C&R, just get a copy of the out-of-state buyer's 03 license (with their signature on it) and ship to their doorstep.

But it's easiest just to let an ffl handle it. Or? Sell it all here in the classifieds (which is what I'd do) and, in this temporary golden age of legal confusion? Just make sure they have an LTC and swap gun for money with a clear conscience. You can do an EFA10 if it'll make you feel safer, though it seems you don't have to right now.

I've been the buyer for a number of sellers' first FTF sales; they've been unsure how to do the EFA10, so I've talked them through it. Make sure your first in-state FTF sale is to an experienced buyer, and they'll square you away. Most people doing deals here on NES are first-class individuals, and they're not out to screw anybody over.

Thank you for that. I still need to record the transaction on the States transaction portal as I understand it. Keep my book up to date and such.

I will post here but likely will be a tough sell.....I know what I got........take it easy, just kidding, but in all seriousness GB reaches out to specific buyers. It I said 1940 99H barrel band chambered in the .300 Savage in 100% original +90 condition what would that mean to anyone who doesn't know 99's.

The key is 1940H in the .300 Savage and the 99 nuts know how special that combo is and how it fetches strong coin. No bidding here and so I would list at what I think it would fetch on GB as there would be a bidding war for the rifle.

Thanks, honestly though, I have flat out given up using the search function here. No disrespect meant, it could be just me but it just doesn't work for me.
My comment was referring to everyone saying they have been gone forever in their responses. I recalled my shock at the post, so it was easy for me to find.

Yeah, that's a weird one. I forgot that whole thread.

So... they send @Ben Cartwright SASS ten paper copies, he fills them out, then... he just mails them to FRB? I suspect there's a better than even chance they simply leave them in somebody's FRB in-box for months, if not years. They don't want to deal with that stuff.

Interesting, though. I've never seen a paper FA10 that I can recall, and that goes back to about 2006 or so? I think?

No, you don’t. There is currently no legal requirement to do anything for the state (of MA). The new registration requirement doesn’t kick in for at least 18 months, and the old system is no longer anywhere in law.

Keep my book up to date and such.

Federal books, yes. You are still required to maintain your bound book. But that’s it.

When I tell you this decision has pained me I am understating it.

That being said I just listed the first one I am letting go. 1952 EG in the .300 Savage in 100% original condition.

In the classified section here on NES.

Im sure it does.......these are guns that will likely never be made again......so I am always careful with selling stuff like that.

However.....when you get older if there is no person to sell/give them to....your risk is them getting all sold to some dealer by your wife, or even worse the cops taking them in some type of medical issue....especially in MA.

I am going thru that with some fine old guns I have at my dad's right now....what to keep...what to sell. My son needs to get off his ass and get his CT license realistically....so some of this goes away and i can just give some of them to him. But if he doesn't....next trip up, i may just drive them all down here. I can't risk them up in MA anymore and my dad being old. My only other outlet is a buddies up there.

The guns were for my Son but he passed in 2012. My Daughter is single and could care less about them. My Brother is widowed and by himself and has his own collection he has to deal with. Couple Nephews who don't hunt/fish and have no interest. I have accepted that it is time to send them down the road.

Yup.....if there is no destination for them.....then take the value of them back and use it for something that makes sense for your life now. Or risk stroking out and your wife selling them at a loss.

I'm dwindling my guns down now to stuff I use...but eventually I'll ask my son what he absolutely wants.......then jettison the rest by caliber that I can't shoot.

I've already got rid of the shoulder breakers already with exception of one 45-70 which I can download...but I still don't shoot it barely at all.

My last long guns will be PCC Marlin Levers (I do have the same issue as you do with Savages with these things) and a 6.5 creed or two bolt gun and maybe a 300 blk bolt gun, because I have a 300blk ar pistol. And I'll end up going to all 20 or 28 gauge for target shooting and getting rid of a stable full of 12 gauge target shotguns I rotate.

I sold a bunch of guns recently and am holding the money for a elk hunt or family vacation......and I don't miss them. My buddy is bringing down more I will sell as well soon.
