Has anyone tried using a factory 9mm barrel(compact) in a M&P 40c? If so, where can I get some? Ive searched the internet for hours trying to find a place where they have in stock. I know there is a conversion barrel for it but that cost about 160 (out of stock everywhere) compared to a factory which I believe cost about 60-70 bucks. Or if there is anyone that has a M&P9c and wanna try it we can discuss more about it because I have a M&P40c.

My buddy has a M&P9c and I have an M&P40c so when we goto the range i'll test his mags and barrel in my gun and see how it works. But that wouldn't be till thursday or possibly the weekend. If someone who has experience in this subject I would be interested in the results as well.

Cool Thanks. There is a video on youtube(M&P 40 to 9mm by Honefive) and a couple threads on S&W forum that talks about it but I wanna see for myself.

correct, the slide on the 40 has a larger hole for the barrel so a regular factory 9mm barrel would be too loose on a 40.

No it doesn't...they are the same size. You can view all the info you need http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=5&f=16&t=104694&page=1 . Not all the necessary measurements were taken in this post. From everyone I have talked to they say don't do it...buy the conversion barrel

If this is true it's the first I've heard of it. I'm not sure why people would be buying conversion barrels that seem to cost more than a factory barrel if you could just swap them.

I own both guns, 9c and 40c, have played with the barrels, the 9 fits into the 40 slide. But.... both barrels are machined differently, I read all the threads about it. Say what ya want, I am not that destitude that I have to risk me or the guy on the range next to me.. I'll spend the extra buck and purchase the correctly machined barrel and magazine. If I want to ccw that combo, I can with complete confidence. If I want to shoot at a publicly attended range, all can rest assured my gun is assembled with the correct parts. I was ready to jump on the cheap alternative before thinking it through and decideding, these guns are not toys. There is no second chance should a failure occur after 500 rounds or 5 or even 5000. Who here as tested this combo for failure for any length of time... if the outside dimensions were the same, I would feel differently.. but they aren't.

I doubt that replacing your 40 S&W barrel with a factory barrel will provide reliable functioning because of the difference in diameters of the breechface. Your only option for reliable functioning is a 9mm conversion barrel.
