I believe in teaching kids at an early age about firearms and firearms safety, however, this particular father is sending the wrong message to his kid. [sad2]

My other complaint is with the pawn shop owner... why did he contact the news station with the story? Was he that stupid that he didn't realize or think that it would reflect badly on gun owners and that it would provide propaganda ammo for the antis? [angry]

Manager Of Westbank Pawn Shop Takes Gun Away From Child

GRETNA, La. -- Pawnshop manager Dan Reese said he never thought he'd see a diaper-clad 2-year-old holding an AK-47.

But that's exactly what happened inside BJ's Pawn Shop on the Westbank, Reese said.

The toddler's father gave him the gun and proceeded to show the child how to hold, load and operate it.

"He's telling the boy, 'This is how you hold it, like this. Anybody in front of you, you can mow them down. Kill everybody, soldier, because daddy's going to buy you this chopper,' repeating it over and over," Reese said.

The store's surveillance video also shows the father and son marching around the store, showcasing the weapon.

With an assault rifle slung over the toddler's shoulder, Reese said he drew the line, took away the weapon and shut the gun case.

According to Reese, the father got angry and wanted to fight, but he never got the man's name.

Reese also said he'll sell AK-47s only to police officers now.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff Harry Lee said he was concerned about the incident but added that the father didn't break any laws.

A pawn shop owner is often not on the highest tier of being supportive
to the 2nd amendment... guns for a lot of them are just another item to
sell. (the line about "only selling to police officers" is indicative of this).

At least the guy did have the intelligence to realize that wasn't right and
kicked the guy out of the store. It'd be one thing if he was just showing
the kid the rifle but all the stuff he was saying to him was absurd... I'm sure
it didn't make any of the other customers comfortable.

Also it wasn't an "assault weapon", unless there was a select-fire gun sitting around a pawn shop [shocked]

Actully that's "Assault Rifle" you're thinking of. It isn't an "Assault Weapon" unless there is a current law that discribes it as such.

Does LA have an AWB? If it doesn't it would be like caling somebody with a mental condition a "Moron". That USED to be the term used, but now it doesn't apply.

Arrrrr
