So a while back I was in some times when I had to sell off some firearms and it sucked but had to be done. I may have the funds coming up to buy a new one finally. Right now I'm left with my carry .380 and my HD shotgun. Now I may in the future but right now I don't have Mich time for lots of range visits so I'm not looking for a range toy. I was thinking finding a used block 19 or 26. I then tossed around trying to own a 1911 again but maybe something I can attempt to carry. Lastlry I was obsessing over the ruger GS scout for a while. The 1911 or scout would be the top end of what I wana spend

These are very different guns of course.

the gunsite scout is sweet. I happen to love .308 and scout scope configurations...but many do not appreciate the scout scope setup and i can understand why it doesnt appeal to everyone. The gunsite scout is well made and solid gun. Really cant go wrong w it assuming u like scout scopes or iron sights.

if youre looking for a value bolt gun I happen to like the ruger american series...no frills all around good rifles.

if youre willing to spend the $$ on a gunsite scout then i also suggest looking at the CZ lineup. I have been drooling over the CZ 527 in .223 for sometime now.

if youre looking for 1 handgun to do it all then i would go G19 or G26 as you mentioned. I love my G26.

i am not a big 1911 guy but i can see the appeal. Certain kind of swag about them.

Just some thoughts. Good luck.

I had a 22. I'm leaning towards glock. 19 or 26. I know I could carry the 26 but the 19 may be hard for me. If I can find either at a good price with night sights then I'd jump on it.

what is your budget there are some pretty good entry level 1911's on the market that are in the high 5's low 6's range. Glocks are great but unless you get a sick deal in mass your gunna pay full retard prices for something anybody else can buy for $500.

The 19 is no larger or heavier than the smallest lightest 1911.

So if you are considering a 1911, then he 19 should be in.

But with that said, if you have doubts, get the G26. With a G19 mag in it or a pinkie extension you can get your whole hand on the grip, and it is easy to shoot quickly and accurately.

I love my G19, but more often than not, find myself reaching for the G26 because the shorter slide makes it easier to sit and the shorter grip makes it easier to conceal.

Yes I'm leaning towards another Block I guess once I have money in hand it'll come down to what I can find used. I have had 3 1911s. Maybe some day I will own one again. I feel a glock 19 will cover a more wide range of needs.

I'm of the mind that if you are going to get a 1911, be prepared to open your wallet.

Anything less than a Dan Wesson (which are quite good) is no better than a plastic gun.
I'm probably wrong. But thats how I've done things and I'm quite happy.

By the way. Having owned Ed Browns, Wilsons, Nighthawks, Baers, and Dan Wessons, I'd actually say that the two lower priced of that list, the Baer and DW shoot as well as any of the more expensive guns. The difference is really in the internal finish quality. The UNDERSIDE of an Ed Brown slide is finished as nicely as the parts you can see. Of all of them though, my DW has the nicest trigger of any 1911 I've ever owned other than a custom Brazos 2011 limited gun that was a completely irrational purchase.

1911 world is so different from everything else.
it's one reason I've steered away from them....it's like i'm getting into archery every time i look at a 1911. haha overwhelming!

I've owned 3 1911s I'm not by any means new to them. I think a G19, would be a good choice for me. I had a 22 and always wanted the 19 23 size

Its a great choice. Given the ability to only own one gun, it would probably be the G19. Its accurate and soft shooting enough for range use and home defense. But small enough to conceal with just a little bit of effort.

I shot Glocks in IDPA for years. Then I started shooting 1911s. I decided I wanted to carry a 1911. So I bought a steel Commander sized Les Baer. Then I realized I was too much of a wuss to deal with the weight. Then I bought a Nighthawk Talon II Lightweight Bobtail. Its an alloy framed Commander with a bobbed tail. I didn't carry that too much because it was still heavy for my tastes and it was just too gorgeous.

So I bought a Colt Lightweight Officers ACP, with the intent of making it a project gun and sending it off to someone like Greg Derr or JoJos and having a custom job done on it.

One day while getting ready to carry it, I noticed my G19 in the safe. I held the G19 up to the OACP and noticed that in profile they are about the same size. Then I examined them for width and noticed they were the same width. Then I compared loaded weight. They were similar.

So I had a quandry. If I'm any kind of a bigot, I'm a Glock AND a 1911 bigot. Thats all I shoot in centerfire semi-autos. So I really don't have a preference of the Glock or 1911 over each other. They are BOTH the guns I like best. But the choice was clear. For the same weight and size I could have 7 rounds of .45 or 16 rounds of 9mm. If I chose to carry a spare mag, the difference was even greater. The OACP could only reliably use Officer sized mags because if you gave a longer mag a good slam it would go up too far and stop the gun.

So with a spare mag, the round count was OACP - 13 rounds of .45 and the Glock 19 - 33 rounds of 9mm. Plus I shot the Glock better with much faster shot to shot split times and better accuracy when shooting fast.

It was a no-brainer. I've since sold the Nighthawk and the Colt to other NESers and continue to carry the G19 under nothing more than a T Shirt with an old 1911 Crossbreed Supertuck that I heated up with a heat gun and remolded for use with the G19.

I like that you call it a "block". [wink]

I've always been a 1911 guy but I too own a G19 and carry it fairly often. You really can't go wrong with it. An excellent all-around pistol. Finding cheap, pre-ban 15rnd mags can be tricky but they're out there.

I have a glock 19 and a glock 26. For me, the g26 is blocky for carry. A three inch 1911 turned out to be the best carry for me. Hold out for what you want . Don't settle.

M60,

Its interesting how we all end up somewhere different. I guess thats the beauty of the free market system.

have you tried a G26 with a G19 mag in it? Its noticeably easier to carry IWB than the G19.

What 1911 do you have. The internet says that 3" 1911s are unreliable. Have you been happy?

I have 3 1911's and both a G19 and G26

1911's For plate shoots and home defense), the G19 for IDPA and the G26 as a carry gun (when I get a good holster for it)

Each gun has its pro's and cons... best to get them all in time, getting what fits the budget right now...

Funny about the Blocks, I have come back around. I had a G27 that was a pain to carry, sold it for a S&W 337 revolver (and still have it) and now I went back to the Block. However my main carry guns are the Seecamp .32, Sig P238 and the 337.

I might add a P938 to the carry list at some point. So again, you can NEVER have enough choices!!!

Smart move replacing the 27 with the 26.

Most people shoot the 26 much much better than the 27. Myself included.

I currently have no .40's, so the 26 made more sense than trying to find another ammo. It (G27) did have the usual snappy recoil, but I think my 337 is way worse!!!

I suspect that some of the above internet commandos could improve reliability with a better hold on the 3" 1911

I have tried the Glock 26 with both the g17 mag and the g19 mag With sleeves. I find them doable but smooth for traction. I like to hold them high and tight and as a result miss the checkering.
I'll limit my answer to the 3" 1911's that I have.
The .45acp Smith Pro Series has been bombproof reliable. I miss the front strap checkering though. Dave Santouri said that the front strap can't be checkered because of the existing grooves already in place. Accuracy is fine.
The 9mm Colt defender has been bombproof reliable. Again no front strap checkering and it's cost prohibitive to remove the finish and reapply after checkering. Accuracy is also fine.
I added mag wells to both guns above for faster and more reliable reloads.
The .45acp Kimber has been all that and a bag of chips. It came from the factory with everything and the accuracy is very good.
I wish I could shrink a Les Baer to 3" and change the frame to alloy.
For carry, I ended up with the 1911 family.
The nightstand holds both Glocks and 1911's. Hopefully I'll never find out which I'll go for, but no matter which one I choose, I'll have complete faith in it's reliability.

I got a 938 and couldn't be happier. It never jams, no matter what I feed it. Accuracy is good and the trigger is just what I want for a pocket carry. For hot summer carry I see it as the bomb.

I have a 3" 1911 and a 938. different guns for different cloths...

Both are completely reliable. The 1911 is the S&W that is reworked by Lew Horton. Totally reliable. IWB when cloths permit. Otherwise I carry the 938 (or also carry) ankle or pocket

Mine is a Lew Horton too, but this is the fist I've heard of Lew Horton reworking a 1911 for reliability. What does he do to them?

As far as I know the Lew Horton edition was more cosmetic changes than the actual workings on the gun. I had one for a while and while it was a great looking gun and felt nice in the hand, I had feeding/extraction issues with mine. Ended up selling it and getting a 4.25" E Series and have been much happier.

I think the LC9 is about the perfect carry weapon if you can master the trigger. I happen to like long pull DA only guns for CCW but your milage may vary. Very easy to carry IWB (it's thin). Overall I have about 500 rounds through it without a single hiccup.

Sorry, I originally misread your post and thought you were looking for a range gun which is why I posted the H&K. Love the LC9. Also, if you're looking at a striker fire like the shield, can't go wrong with a Kahr P9. Mine was super accurate right out of the box and a soft shooter.

When you said the LC9 was the perfect carry weapon, I was about to write "Then you haven't shot a P9". Then I saw that you owned one.

My question is simple. I've owned both. I find the Kahr to be far far superior the the LC9. You seem to prefer the Ruger. Why?

I'm not challenging you. I'm just curious. The difference to me was huge. To me the Kahr had a much better trigger and much more controlled in recoil. The result was that I could shoot much more quickly with "combat accuracy" with the Kahr than I could with the Ruger.

I'm also considering getting another shield again. The only thing I didn't like was when I appendix carried it was like sharp haha the safety and rear sight. Maybe if I got a full sweat guard holster. And if j can find one with a trigger job
