Fixed Mag Lowers

unfix the mag. get a real mag. You have a pre 8-1 lower, there are no longer any regulations on it apart from federally.

Also, never shop at the FFL who sold you that. Name them. Shame them. They ripped you off when they could have sold you a regular AR-15 but instead kowtowed to Maura Healey's edict.

Some of the fixed mag lowers never had the mag release milled

They could have sold him nothing at all and hed really be up the creek.

Naming them is pointless they're mostly all box stores. Also, realize gun shops have lots of pant shitters for customers. People, believe it or not, literally demand shit like that but also order it. You would cry if you witnessed the number of people who mindlessly bend over. I've had people who looked at me like i murdered their dog when i suggested they could ignore shit like cmr940 and just have a normal trigger, etc.

These people are real. They exist. And they're def f***ed upstairs. 🤣

Yeah. What about the slot on the opposite side?
Cordless drill, they sell Jigs. People are very spoiled nowadays with 3d printers and "80" percent lowers that need a couple holes drilled. But back in the early 2010's... We had guys making AKs out of shovels and AR's out of wood. If you truly can't figure out how to unfix the mag on the lower with 15 years of posts/videos. Just spend the $200 bucks and buy one in the classifieds.

Lol that's not the point. If it's worth it to you then great. I can work metal. Just seems like too much effort for a bastard lower. Maybe I have been spoiled through the decades.

Edit to add. You know I'm not the one with the fixed mag. Right?

I fail to understand the draw of getting into the fixed mag gheyness. Maybe because I started getting into the AR (10 and 15) platform after moving out of the PRM (2012).

As for people molesting a lower that needs to get the mag release slot/area machined in order to accept regular mags... Yeah, using a drill MIGHT 'work' but it's going to be a hack job. OR, it's going to take you a LONG time to get it to be even close to what one comes from a factory. IMO, just sell off the ghey lower and get a regular one.

I picked this up in 2020 at a time where there wasn’t much available and relied on the dealer to understand regulations, etc.

I understand the comment on just picking up a preban lower but depending on how you read the regulations that wouldn’t be in ‘my’ possession as of 8/1.

Seems like if it’s ok as per this new change (regardless of how ridiculous it is) then machining the lower to allow standard mags is probably the way to go.

I posted here for clarification after reading the pinned post on this. I understand nobody has all the answers here so just looking to hear thoughts. Seems that I’m maybe one of only a few people that purchased a fixed mag lower…

A good amount of people bought the fixed mag lowers to make AR pistols (as that was the only easy path under the old law).
Also, pre 8/1 AR-15s are in-state transferable.

fixed mag lowers are gay AF. It’s a shame numerous shops were really pushing those. Meanwhile at the time, you could go to the mill and buy a real AR lower.

Yes I understand some bought fixed mag lowers for AR pistols which I guess I understand? Even then, I wouldn’t want to deal with manually loading rounds just so I can have a pistol. To each their own I suppose
