Glock Failure to Feed

Got the G17 back today. It looks like Glock replaced everything in the firearm even the sights! Not bad for $30. It appears to snap into battery much more firmly already. I will make a range trip the beginning of next week.

Thanks dongalonga for the update, good to hear all when well on the shipping.

Question for the Mass guys:

I am also looking to send my early SN G19 gen4 back to glock for an different issue. I got the gun used on a FA-10, and i am not LEO... can i still use Four seasons to ship it back to glock? I have read mixed info once a deal is involved?

any help would be greatly appreciated

AG

For a repair there is no "transfer", so yes, you can use FS or any (willing) dealer to send it in. There is no 4473 or FA-10 on the way back... the dealer just logs it out of his book and gives you the gun back.

One of my friends know a cop from Ma that sent his gen4 to Glock and to this day haven't got it back, am thinking find some place from nh that can send it and get it back with no problems

That doesn't make any sense to me. I've sent post-98 Glocks through MA dealers no problem and gotten them back every time. That said, you can do the NH thing no problem. (Again, since this is a REPAIR, none of the usual BS regarding transfers applies. ) The only time a transfer comes into play is if your frame is f**ked and they have to replace it, but that's a whole other ball of wax that is rarely encountered.

So what did they do to make him whole? Give him a refund or something? Or did they just steal his gun and leave him hung out to dry?

I can understand being afraid of the AG, but that's just absurd.

Quick update. Took it out today and put 100 rounds through it. I had two failure to go into battery events. Unlike before where it would only feed 50% of the way these were 99% fed. I attribute it to the new (used) hi caps I just got. I will keep better track so I can narrow it down to the suspect mag.

Ordered wolff +10% mag springs for the new mags. It was definitely one of the new mags that had the feed issue. Will update when they are installed/tested.

You can ship it directly to Glock. There is no need or requirement to go through an FFL. Just call Glock service and they will give you a return authorization number. When Glock is finished with it they will ship it directly back to you.

********thanks guys, your post answer my questions.

I may have missed it, but do you have a tactical light attached to the gun during the misfeeds? If you do then that is most likely the problem. If you do have a light, you need to either remove the light or get stronger mag springs. Forgive me if you already knew or discussed this.

The issue with tac lights doesn't always afflict guns in the same way. I don't really use rail lights, but I have the cheap Glock tac light and I've tested it on 6 different Glocks, (3 in 9mm, 3 in .45 ACP) and it never changed the function of the gun at any time.

Update

So the issues are definitely ammo related at this point. I was having an occasional failure to feed. The rounds would not feed up the mag. They were getting stuck not only in the G17 this time, but the SR9 as well. This is the first failure I have had with the Ruger ever! The round misfed so badly the round was completely vertical in the chamber. Switched to brass case ammo and not a single hiccup.

The moral of the story...no more crappy Tula ammo in my pistols! I went out and bought 1000 rounds of Federal brass case after the range trip. I will keep this thread updated if there are any further issues with the brass.

I dont know but Mite be something else I use Tula ammo on g26,23,19, sig p226, and kahr pm9 never had one problem at all

It is definitely the ammo. I have never had an issue with steel case in any gun before. Unfortunately, this is most likely a bad lot of ammo. Both gun have choked on it and the Ruger has NEVER had a failure of any kind. I thought it looked like the OAL of these rounds was noticeably short compared to the Federal brass ammo I had. Now that both guns are choking on it, I'm sure its the ammo.

Oh and for the record I am a huge proponent of steel case ammo. I just think this batch was out of spec. I will just not take the chance on 1000 rounds without seeing it first again.

Looks like the case is closed. The G17 ran flawlessly today on the new brass case ammo. It is safe to say at this point that my suspicion of out of spec ammo was correct.

Thanks. I was starting to wonder if I was going to get it running right. Thats the risk with buying a 20+ year old pistol. You never know how well it was taken care of.

I have a Glock G19 and had the same problem. Wolf Steel Cased ammo kept jamming. The problem was it wouldn't feed out of the magazine correctly. I tried everything, even sent it back to Glock who could not find an issue. When I got it back from Glock I put 400 rounds of aluminum cased ammo through it without a single issue. Then I tried the Wolf ammo again and had the same problem again - kept misfeeding. It's definitely the ammo. I think it's the coating (or lack thereof) that is causing the problem.

Glad to hear your gun is running 100% now!

One out of 100 rounds of that cheap Tula 115 grain shit made my P226 puke too. First FTE it's ever had after a steady diet of Federal and WWB 115 grain. Went back to the WWB/Federal and haven't had an issue since.
